Eric wakes up from a nightmare. He dreams that he forgot to put his clothes on for Lucy's wedding; also he forgot the words to the vows. Annie reassures him that he won't forget anything for the wedding and that he will make Lucy very proud. Kevin finds Lucy asleep at the dinner table over her college books; he covers her with a blanket.
In a convenience store Detective Richardson stops in the morning to get coffee. As he is pouring his cup, a man comes into the store with a gun and demands the money from the cash register. Det. Richardson draws his own gun and tells the man to drop his gun. The man looks at Det. Richardson and says that he knows him; Det. Richardson acknowledges that he, too, knows the man. The man doesn't drop his gun but shifts it so that it is now pointing at Detective Richardson.
Eric awakens late in the day and rushes downstairs to see why Annie didn't wake him sooner. He thinks that he needs to start waking up at a certain time so that he will have his body trained to wake up early for Lucy's wedding. Eric is very scared that he will really make a mess of Lucy's wedding. Annie tries to reassure him, she tells him to talk to his friend Morgan who is a pastor. Eric likes that idea and decides to talk to Morgan that afternoon when he comes with his wife, Patricia, to help Annie start fixing up the apartment over the garage for Lucy and Kevin to move into after their wedding.
Lucy is trying to study for an exam while Kevin is trying to snuggle with her. Lucy voices that she is feeling run down trying to plan the wedding, take s, and date Kevin. Lucy suggests that it would be advantageous for her to take a small break from school so she can plan the wedding. Kevin shoots down her idea. He will not be the cause of Lucy stopping her school studies. He would rather postpone their wedding until Lucy is finished with school than have her stop. Kevin even threatens that he will not marry Lucy if she stops going to school, even if it is temporarily. Lucy agrees that she will continue with school.
Kevin finds Ruthie getting off the phone with someone. She will not tell him who was on the phone and Kevin is a little suspicious. The phone rings again and Lucy tells Kevin that it is Roxanne on the phone for him. Roxanne explains to Kevin that Lt. Michaelson called her to tell her that her father had been involved in a shooting at the convenience store that morning and she needed to come down to the station. Kevin tells Roxanne he will go with her.
At the station, Lt. Michaelson tells Roxanne that her father is fine, but being questioned by some other detectives. He explains that the man her father shot and killed that morning was the man everyone believed killed Roxanne's mother ten years ago. Roxanne is shocked, but believes that her father did his job, nothing more. Kevin calls Chandler against Roxanne's wishes; Chandler arrives. He tries to comfort Roxanne, but she is just upset. They get into a fight because she thinks Chandler believes her father killed the man on purpose, but that isn't what Chandler believes. When Roxanne learns that her father turned in his badge and resigned, she thinks that police officials forced her father into retirement and decides to resign as well.
Lucy finds out from a professor that she is doing very poorly in his He suggests that Lucy take an incomplete and come back to school when she has more time for school. This upsets Lucy and she informs Kevin that she is going to take a break. Kevin refuses that option. After some time apart, Lucy decides that Kevin is right and that she will just have to work harder to do everything.
While Patricia and Annie are fixing the apartment, Patricia mentions that Morgan is thinking of quitting the ministry and joining a jazz band as their bassist. Patricia doesn't like this idea. Morgan tells Eric that he wants to take a break like Eric did and just do something different for a while. Eric and Annie fear that Patricia and Morgan's marriage is in jeopardy from this conflict and decided that as their friends they must do something to save Patricia and Morgan's marriage. Annie comes up with the idea of locking them in the apartment for the afternoon. Both Patricia and Morgan don't understand why Annie and Eric think something is wrong, but take advantage of the afternoon by getting physical with one another. When Eric and Annie try to take credit for saving their marriage, Morgan and Patricia inform them that their marriage is fine. Eric and Annie feel a little dumb for thinking otherwise.
Ruthie finally tells Ben that Mary has been calling all week. Mary has left a plane ticket for Ben at the Airport for him to go to Florida. Ruthie tells Ben that Mary wants him back, but Ruthie knows that Mary will only break Ben's heart. Ben decides he will go. Ruthie then tells Kevin and both Kevin and Ruthie race to the airport to try and stop Ben but they are too late. When they get back home Ben returns telling him that he got all the way on the plane before he realized that Ruthie was right, Mary will only break his heart.
Chandler goes to see Roxanne's father to tell Det. Richardson that Roxanne resigned from the police force. Det. Richardson finds Roxanne and explains to her that he wasn't forced out of the police department. Leaving the department was his choice, something that he needed to do. The past ten years hadn't been about just keeping people safe, but stopping an accident like his wife's. Finally, he sees that he needs rest from his demons and he has that now, a peace. Roxanne agrees not to resign from the police force. Later she and Chandler speak and she thanks him for caring so much about her and her well-being.
