Ruthie, never dance again.

Like the season premiere, the only good thing about this episode was Eric rocking out at the end. Otherwise, this was an extremely slow moving and pretty boring episode. Not only that, but it was quite uncomfortable. Especially the Ruthie part. The episode was really wheezing towards the end, but perked up a little thanks to Eric playing "Spirit In The Sky". Stephen Collins was great in this episode, and he has a fantastic singing voice. Rose is still annoying as, well, you know. Sandy's pregnant and Martin is still not talking to her. And so on. So far, season 10 has been pretty ho hum. A dull, boring premiere, a better second episode, and now another dull, boring episode. So, what exactly happened?...
Let's start with the whole Ruthie aspect of the episode. First of all, the dancing was horrible and incredibly wince inducing. It was uncomfortable to watch, and it looked like Mackenzie Rosman had a pained expression on her face like "I can't believe I'm doing this. Somebody please help me!". The only good thing that came from this was seeing Eric trying to recreate her moves to show Annie down in the kitchen. Ruthie couldn't dance in "Red Socks", and not much has improved since then. Eric and Annie get into a discussion about how sexy she is looking and immediatley get into her having sex and acting as if she is already acceptig offers. Talk about jumping the gun. The girl is looking older, a little sexier, and likes boys?. Well then, she must be having sex or is thinking of having sex right this instant!. Or at least that's how Eric feels. Annie seems to be more realistic and level headed about the whole thing. But Ruthie is still adamant that she will have this Jack. I have said this before, and I will say it again. Why Jack?. Honestly, what is so special?. They keep saying he's 18, but he looks like he's 25. Ruthie hasn't had the best of luck when it comes to the guys she has dated or liked, but they were better and better for her than Jack. I don't see that all this drama is because of someone who doesn't seem to be worth it at all. Plus, she is so small compared to him. Then again, she's small compared to almost everyone else. And he looks like Chewbacca standing over her. How's the air down there Ruthie?. But Ruthie feels sexy, and after a talk with Eric, begins to act like it too. She's strutting her stuff down the school hallways with guys watching after her. This has never happened before, but all she does is put more sway into her walk, and now the male population of the school turn their heads. The whole situation just seemed forced and trite and wasn't convincing to me. And what about that little bit of dialogue between her and Martin?. Talking about being sexy, Ruthie says that people think he is, and then goes on to say to him that he is. Hmm. Does Ruthie really think so?. Forshadowing, perhaps?. But the most painful part of Ruthie's dancing is the end at the dance. This was a church social, and she dances like that. Not only that, but she stuck out like a sore thumb, and that was not the music to be doing that too in the first place. It just looked so unnatural. It was all just too silly, unconvinving, and uncomfortable to watch. But hey, give Mackenzie credit. She did it.
Simon and Rose. Oh Simon, how much longer will it go on until you realize that Rose is just not the one?. But first, let me comment on Eric and Annie in this situation. They think that Simon has finally dumped Rose, and act quite giddy aboout the whole thing. Some people have attacked Eric and Annie for thinking such things and acting happy about it. If you were parents, and your son was with a Rose, wouldn't you?. You want your child to be happy, but you don't want them to make a mistake and be with the wrong person either. If I were them, I would probably be happy that Rose was out of the picture too. The problem is that she isn't gone. In fact, she is getting cozier and cozier in Simon's life. Simon comes home and finds Rose has moved stuff of hers into his apartment and tells him that she plans on moving in, but is keeping her apartment just in case. Right away, you know that Simon is not totally okay with this. She is coming on strong and Simon is getting smothered. I mean, the girl has her stuffed animals on his bed. When Simon calls home, Eric gets the impression that his son's latest news is that he has come to his senses and is leaving Rose. He and Annie couldn't be happier. Rose is still after Simon about the wedding date and all that. I hope that Simon lets it out. I want to see him stand up to Rose and finally tell her that she is too much and their relationship won't work out. Because, quite frankly, I don't know how much more I can take of Rose. David Gallagher continues to do a good job as Simon. Questioning Rose's actions, trying to study, frustrated at how things are going, etc. He did a good job in this episode.
Kevin has joined a mommy and me class and still hasn't told Lucy about getting shot on the job. Kevin hits it off with the other mothers, and invites them to a church social that Lucy has set up at the church for singles. She even bribes Eric that he could set up a band and perform there. Kevin's little secret comes out at the social when an incredibly rude and smackworthy husband lets it out after he basically calls Kevin a woman. Try putting your life on the line at work every day and get shot at by some kid and see what you think then buddy!. We don't see the aftermath of Kevin's secret in this episode. Just Lucy getting upset and skulking off with Kevin right after her. This storyline doesn't occupy too much of the episode, and it's only importance is the end when Lucy finds out. Otherwards, it's pretty uninteresting.
Sandy is still upset over Martin, and Martin has still not called her and is basically being the jerk he has been for the last few episodes. I don't like the character of Sandy at all, but Haylie Duff isn't that bad. Really. But is Martin really the father?. We learn that Sandy has basically slept with the entire male student body. Is it possible that this really isn't Martin's baby?. When this first started, I thought it was interesting. But now, I don't want it to be his and I just want it over with. I really have no feeling for this storyline whatsoever. But if it is Martin's baby, I hope he grows up a little bit and takes a role in the whole situation. And why do people keep pulling poor Simon into it?. He introduced them. So what?. ' this is so and so. have sex now '. What they do is what they do on their own. He just introduced them. Thinking this is partially his fault or that he is somehow responsible for this is ludicrous. In the end, this was an episode that pretty much didn't deliver. It tried to be funny, but it wasn't. There were some cute things here, like the twins finding twins at the dance, and Annie covering Savannah's eyes, but that's it. The whole thing was slow and it just didn't do it for me. But please Brenda, find a way to keep getting Eric to perform.
