Not bad, but the soup's getting cold.

"Good"
"Soup's On" was not a bad episode. Like last week's ep, it was just okay. Actually, I think it was a tad better than "Helpful". The season has been going slowly, and seems like everything is being stretched out and not a lot happens. At least in this episode something finally moves along a bit as Martin tells his dad about Sandy and the baby. Otherwise, it was the usual goings on. I think it's great if the show is teaming up with some company or someone for a good reason. In tonight's episode, there is a lot of Campbell soup talk. The show is in a promotional campaign with the company for school education and getting supplies to schools. Basically what you saw in this episode that Ruthie was doing. Like I said, I think it's fine to do that. It's great to help. But what I don't ever really like is when they make it so obvious. Sometimes during this episode I thought they should just have a Campbell's soup logo stuck right in a corner of the TV screen for the entire episode. I think people will get the message just as much if it were done more subtley than it was here. I guess this is a minor complaint, but that's how I feel about it. Anyways, I really don't know if I have as much to say about this episode as others, but I guess I will try. Should we get started?...
Something worthwhile finally happens in the ongoing Martin drama when he is finally ready to tell his father everything about him, Sandy, and their upcoming baby. Plus, it's about time Martin's dad shows up. Anywho, Lucy knows that Martin is about to reveal all to papa Brewer, and everyone awaits the outcome. The scene with father and son and Eric sitting in the backyard was a pretty good scene, and was probably the only real highlight of the episode. Martin has a bit of trouble coming out with the truth. His dad thinks that he enlisted to be a marine. Martin chickens out and goes along with his dad's assumption, seeming as that would be easier to take than having to tell him the actual truth. Scared, Martin goes to Eric this time to help him tell his father the truth. Why not Lucy?. He has gone to Lucy for most of this, so why did he turn to Eric for this?. Does Martin know that Lucy is not exactly ready for everything that her job entails?. Anyways, Eric agrees to help Martin tell his father the big news. Martin does, and the aftermath went quite well. Too well for some, maybe. Martin's dad took the news very well and it wasn't as bad as some(and probably Martin)were expecting. Eric even mentioned how surprisingly well the whole thing went down. Should Martin's dad of been a little more upset?. Who knows. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. But after the news came out and Martin left, his dad and Eric talked briefly and Eric let out that most everyone knows about this. Except Ruthie and Meredith. You would think that maybe his dad would of been a little more upset that everyone knew about his son's big news and not him. Not only that, but they all knew and never said anything for a long while. It's hard to really say what you would be like in this kind of situation when you haven't been in one like it and, hopefully, never will. What was interesting about their short talk was how even Martin's dad realizes that Ruthie is in love with Martin. I don't know about you, but I am more than ready for this pregnancy thing to be done. I want the baby born, and I want a definite answer to who the baby's father really is. And if you are going to hook up Martin and Ruthie, do it already.
Sandy's dad returns and Michael McDonald was better here than in his debut appearance last week. Last week, I wasn't sure if it was just lousy acting, or if McDonald was trying to be kinda funny with the whole scene, but he was much better here. Sandy's dad is not a great person, but it appears that there may be some hope in him wanting to get help. He comes to see "Lucille", but instead finds Eric. He tells Eric that he has something to give to Sandy. It's an envelope full of money. Her dad said he found it at the bank. Okay. Suspicion alert!. Eric says that there is almost $3,000 dollars in the envelope. Sandy's dad requests that she not be given all of the money in advance. Later, he comes back saying it was a mistake. He just lost his job and he is going to need the money back to live off of until he finds new work. Lucy lies and tells him that she already sent it to Sandy. McDonald's performance here was more clear. He was more comical here, and I wasn't quite sure how he was supposed to be last week, if that makes any kind of sense at all. Lol. Lucy talks to Sandy who she tells not to let Simon or Rose know about the money.
Which brings us to the bank of Simon. Simon is paying for the ring he got Rose. Oh, he's paying!. His phone service is cut off, and Eric tells him that he is not paying for the ring. Simon tells him that he can handle it. Eric keeps calling and the operator keeps saying that the number is disconnected. Simon gets his cell phone back, but is waiting to turn on the apartment phone until he is more on his feet again. Simon, Simon, Simon. Rose is just too much trouble. Anyway, Eric learns that Simon got the money for his phone from Mary. Eric just hangs up(nice)and asks God for one good day with his children. I thought he was overreacting the situation a bit here.
Ruthie is doing what Eric had aked her to do. Find some kind of activity and put some balance into her life. If she does, she can date whoever. She wants whatshisface. I still don't know why. She is collecting soup labels as a school project for school equipment and such. But is Ruthie's heart in the right place?. Is she doing good because she wants too?. Is she interested in this at all?. Is her mind still just focused on boys and dating?. Will this ever end?. Not too soon it seems.
"Soup's On" was not terrible. Nothing better than just "average". The Martin scene with his dad and Eric was pretty good, Michael McDonald was pretty interesting to watch, and the twins saying "not really" to Eric in unison was funny. I actually laughed. I laughed at something the twins said!. That was something that needs to be jotted down in the history books. Not this episode.
