  • Great episode!

Martin tells his dad about the baby and Sandy. Ruthie picks a project-collecting soup labels for the school newspaper! Jack says that he would like to go out with her once she can. Simon has trouble paying his bills. Sandy's father gives Lucy a lot of money for Sandy. He says that he found it. He comes the next day and wants it back. Eric and Lucy try to persuade him to becomes sober. Martin and Meredith talk about the future.

This was a great episode! I really like Meredith! She's so perfect for Martin. I don't like Sandy's dad though. It must've been hard for Martin to tell his dad something like that. This episode gets a 10!
  • Martin tells his dad about the babY!!

This whole episode i was sitting on the edge of my seat. Martin was going to tell his dad about the baby. I wanted to find out what his fathers reaction to the event was.

When the time finally came he was to scared to tell him so he made up a lie and said he joined the marines instead. Haha i was laughing so hard at that. Martin couldn't get enough courage to tell him himself so he went to Eric for support.

To me his dad was really understanding about the whole situation. If i had made the mistake like that i would want my dads reaction to be the same way. He said he would support him and he would be there for the baby. He was a little shocked by it though and he told Martin that he didn't think he was ready for it.

It is revealed that Martin's dad knows that Ruthie likes Martin and he is hoping one day that they will get married.

Ruthie is collecting soup labels for her so to show she is responsible. In a phone conversation we find out that Jack likes Ruthie and she is only doing this soup labels to go out with him.

I hope one day that Ruthie and Martin to be together. I don't like Martin with Meredith. Plus i wonder how she is going to react know that her boyfriend got another girl pregnant. I wonder how Ruthie will react too. I bet she will be hurt but one day forgive him.

OMG!!! THis eppy was really good. i cant believe sandy is 21 and she was probably very young when her parents divorced and she was never told her dad was, well is, a drunk, not even when she drank her mother didnt tell her. now that we knoe EXACTLY when simon slept with sandy, me and a lot of my friends believe sandy was a virgin when she slept with him, because of the way she said "i wasnt [addicted to men/sex] until after simon. It was a year ago, so martins the father, but i only did it [back then] because i thought i really cared about him, and martin was the one i really didnt care about." or sumthing like that, but the way she put it sounds like she was. Also martin is such a manwhore and he keeps saying " BUT I DONT WANT A BABY!!!" and stuff and 1) like sandy does, and 2) saying that wont make the situation any better. i like after he told his dad and he was like "this isnt fair" and martins dad was like "i betcha the girls thinking the same thing." but martin still. didnt listen. Great eppy, but better if Sandy(haylie dufF) was in it a bit more.

Seriously, what is the deal with Ruthie. She knows everything. She would be the first to know about Martin and Sandy. And lucy having problems with kevin? Duh!? Lucy is always having problems with everyone. Of all the kids, lucy and ruthie are by far the two most prolific characters. They are in every episode and they have the most drama...if it weren't for them there would not be a 7th heaven.

Excellent for season 10. Definite one of the best so far this season. And I'm gonna miss "7th Heaven" by the way. You've all heard they're taking it off the air, right?! I'm gonna miss it!

It's the calm before the storm. Meredith is still blissful in her ignorance, for now at least, since in just a week she'll know what everyone else in town knows - that her boyfriend's about to be some one else's baby daddy. Simon on the other hand, is going quickly broke trapped in the tentacles of his scary black widow bride to be Rose. Obvioulsy he must also be deaf dumb and blind since he's the only one in Glenoak who can't see that Rose is an energy sucking vampire and definitely not the one for him. Lucy continues to grow into her role as Junior Minister and shares a hilarious, well-played scene with Sandy's drunk dad.

I didn't really care for this storyline. I thought that it made the show drag a little. I wouldn't say that it was done before, but they definitely needed to do something to spice it up. I mean we all know Sandy's dad is a drunk and doesn't really want to help. Sandy will probably go back to drinking and Simon and Rose will probably break up now. Which would be a good thing. I felt like there were really too many stories in one episode.

There were only two things I really liked about the episode. Martin tells his dad about Sandy(although we still have no proof that the baby is his). Eric hangs up on Simon. I think was classic. They should do that more often and maybe Simon will learn a lesson about Rose.

  • Not bad, but the soup's getting cold.

"Soup's On" was not a bad episode. Like last week's ep, it was just okay. Actually, I think it was a tad better than "Helpful". The season has been going slowly, and seems like everything is being stretched out and not a lot happens. At least in this episode something finally moves along a bit as Martin tells his dad about Sandy and the baby. Otherwise, it was the usual goings on. I think it's great if the show is teaming up with some company or someone for a good reason. In tonight's episode, there is a lot of Campbell soup talk. The show is in a promotional campaign with the company for school education and getting supplies to schools. Basically what you saw in this episode that Ruthie was doing. Like I said, I think it's fine to do that. It's great to help. But what I don't ever really like is when they make it so obvious. Sometimes during this episode I thought they should just have a Campbell's soup logo stuck right in a corner of the TV screen for the entire episode. I think people will get the message just as much if it were done more subtley than it was here. I guess this is a minor complaint, but that's how I feel about it. Anyways, I really don't know if I have as much to say about this episode as others, but I guess I will try. Should we get started?...

Something worthwhile finally happens in the ongoing Martin drama when he is finally ready to tell his father everything about him, Sandy, and their upcoming baby. Plus, it's about time Martin's dad shows up. Anywho, Lucy knows that Martin is about to reveal all to papa Brewer, and everyone awaits the outcome. The scene with father and son and Eric sitting in the backyard was a pretty good scene, and was probably the only real highlight of the episode. Martin has a bit of trouble coming out with the truth. His dad thinks that he enlisted to be a marine. Martin chickens out and goes along with his dad's assumption, seeming as that would be easier to take than having to tell him the actual truth. Scared, Martin goes to Eric this time to help him tell his father the truth. Why not Lucy?. He has gone to Lucy for most of this, so why did he turn to Eric for this?. Does Martin know that Lucy is not exactly ready for everything that her job entails?. Anyways, Eric agrees to help Martin tell his father the big news. Martin does, and the aftermath went quite well. Too well for some, maybe. Martin's dad took the news very well and it wasn't as bad as some(and probably Martin)were expecting. Eric even mentioned how surprisingly well the whole thing went down. Should Martin's dad of been a little more upset?. Who knows. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. But after the news came out and Martin left, his dad and Eric talked briefly and Eric let out that most everyone knows about this. Except Ruthie and Meredith. You would think that maybe his dad would of been a little more upset that everyone knew about his son's big news and not him. Not only that, but they all knew and never said anything for a long while. It's hard to really say what you would be like in this kind of situation when you haven't been in one like it and, hopefully, never will. What was interesting about their short talk was how even Martin's dad realizes that Ruthie is in love with Martin. I don't know about you, but I am more than ready for this pregnancy thing to be done. I want the baby born, and I want a definite answer to who the baby's father really is. And if you are going to hook up Martin and Ruthie, do it already.

Sandy's dad returns and Michael McDonald was better here than in his debut appearance last week. Last week, I wasn't sure if it was just lousy acting, or if McDonald was trying to be kinda funny with the whole scene, but he was much better here. Sandy's dad is not a great person, but it appears that there may be some hope in him wanting to get help. He comes to see "Lucille", but instead finds Eric. He tells Eric that he has something to give to Sandy. It's an envelope full of money. Her dad said he found it at the bank. Okay. Suspicion alert!. Eric says that there is almost $3,000 dollars in the envelope. Sandy's dad requests that she not be given all of the money in advance. Later, he comes back saying it was a mistake. He just lost his job and he is going to need the money back to live off of until he finds new work. Lucy lies and tells him that she already sent it to Sandy. McDonald's performance here was more clear. He was more comical here, and I wasn't quite sure how he was supposed to be last week, if that makes any kind of sense at all. Lol. Lucy talks to Sandy who she tells not to let Simon or Rose know about the money.

Which brings us to the bank of Simon. Simon is paying for the ring he got Rose. Oh, he's paying!. His phone service is cut off, and Eric tells him that he is not paying for the ring. Simon tells him that he can handle it. Eric keeps calling and the operator keeps saying that the number is disconnected. Simon gets his cell phone back, but is waiting to turn on the apartment phone until he is more on his feet again. Simon, Simon, Simon. Rose is just too much trouble. Anyway, Eric learns that Simon got the money for his phone from Mary. Eric just hangs up(nice)and asks God for one good day with his children. I thought he was overreacting the situation a bit here.

Ruthie is doing what Eric had aked her to do. Find some kind of activity and put some balance into her life. If she does, she can date whoever. She wants whatshisface. I still don't know why. She is collecting soup labels as a school project for school equipment and such. But is Ruthie's heart in the right place?. Is she doing good because she wants too?. Is she interested in this at all?. Is her mind still just focused on boys and dating?. Will this ever end?. Not too soon it seems.

"Soup's On" was not terrible. Nothing better than just "average". The Martin scene with his dad and Eric was pretty good, Michael McDonald was pretty interesting to watch, and the twins saying "not really" to Eric in unison was funny. I actually laughed. I laughed at something the twins said!. That was something that needs to be jotted down in the history books. Not this episode.
  • Well Martin told his dad he got someone pregnet, But not before leading him to believe he joined the service. Ruthie still dosn't know Martin's secret but she will find out sooner or later. As for Simon who know what kind of relationship he will have with

Sandy's dad. The evil functional alcoholic. He certainly is a more engaging character than the lying manipulating self-righteous Camden reverends.

Why is there such a preoccupation in the story line that Ruthie needs to be told what Martin did? Certainly Meredith deserves to be told, as she is in a relationship with him. But why should anyone be concerned about Ruthie - it's not any of her business - but I guess in the Camden world, everything IS their business. Does Ruthie own Martin because she has a silly crush on him - ah... but the writers are making this out to be true love... directing this absurdity to their target audience of prepubescent girls who daydream of seducing a prince charming who doesn't even know they're alive. But realistically, why would Martin's father want Martin to end up with Ruthie - she comes across on screen as a short spoiled brat, rude, obnoxious and full of herself in direct contrast to the paragon of coolness the writers are struggling to portray. In real life, what eighteen year old boy would want to have anything to do with the likes of Ruthie? And in this episode, not only is the actress making her usual funny faces to try and convey emotion but now she's shrugging and twitching - is the director trying to get her to fool us into thinking she is actually a real girl?

Then there is Meredith with Martin, and they're smitten with each other, a little overboard with the adoration perhaps but not unrealistic for a couple a few years younger than what they're portrayed to be. They seem a lot more realistic and sympathetic, even though they are doomed in the Camden universe, so that Ruthie, and by extension every underage diva wannabee, can have her fantasies fulfilled.

It is nice that Martin is finally waking up to his responsibilities, and telling his dad about Sandy and the baby. There was something good about the scene where Eric helped Martin tell his dad - for once he didn't get all preachy and moralistic, he was actually quietly helpful. But it is strange that the writers are not dealing well with Martin's role in this matter - are they setting us up for another 'heart-stopping' reveal that the baby is actually Simon's - will the baby be a still-birth and therefore not worth the emotional involvement.... who knows?

And then the business with Simon asking for money. What's with the Mary hate... just kill her off in a murder suicide pact and get it over with. So Eric refuses to help Simon with money, and then taunts him by continually calling him on his disconnected phone and then demanding to be told who lent him the money that he had refused him. What did he want? For Simon to declare bankruptcy? Go to a loan shark? Drop out of school and get a minimum wage job?

Hopefully for Simon to return the ring and cancel the engagement, but isn't this a very passive agressive way to handle it? Either you support your adult son or you don't - but if you don't support him, you don't have the right to nag and harass him about every detail of his life. You have to let him live with his own mistakes - that's the whole point of not giving him the money he asked for.

All in all, an uneven episode - grandstanding for the target demographic, focusing in all the wrong places, missing the boat and drowning in soup.
  • A little preachy at times.

On tonight's episode, Martin, with a little help from Eric, tells his father that he got a girl pregnant, and Ruthie gets involved in helping the school newspaper collect soup labels to get a computer.

On the Martin and Sandy front, I was somewhat suprised that Sandy's father was doing an honorable thing by her, having Lucy give her some money he had in the bank to help with the baby. That is, until he returned at the end of the episode and asked for it back, just so he could use it to buy some alcohol to feel comforted due to losing his job. I found that it that I really enjoyed Lucy's somewhat overly spunky attitude that she used to tell him that she already gave Sandy the money, going against his wishes of only giving her a little bit every now and again. As for Martin, it's nice to see that he finally had enough nerve to tell his father of his perdicament with Sandy, even if he needed Eric there for moral support. With him, I am still disappointed in Martin's attitude towards Sandy and the fact that her baby will be his responsibility as well. In any event, it still took a lot of guts to finally face up to tell his father.

With Ruthie, I am getting really tired of her attitude of only helping her school's newspaper collect the soup labels just so it shows her parents that she is caring enough to help others just to benefit herself, because in doing so, she can start going out with whomever she wants. And one thing that I didn't really like with this storyline was how the writers incorporated the "'Campbells Soup Labels For Education' to help out our school to get a computer" in every sentence. It was a bit much in my opinion.

And lastly, with Simon, I am getting tired of always seeing him bowing to Rose's will whenever she doesn't like the fact that he wants to listen to his family. In tonight's episode he was straped for cash to pay his bills, thanks to the extremely expensive engagement ring that she wanted and asked the family for some money to help him out, causing his phone services to be shut off. I believe that at the end of the episode, when Eric was able to reach Simon on his cell phone, it was hard to figure out what Eric was more disappointed about, the fact that someone in the family gave Simon the money, or that Mary was the one that gave him the money, because of the Camden's feelings toward the prodigal daughter.

I have to say that any of the episodes he is on are great!!!

This was good. I was glad they talked about Campbell's soup lables we used to do that when I was a kid for school we got a whole bunch of computers. Glad to see that program is still around and I hope that by them calling attention to it that some schools get some much needed things. On a side note Lots more information shared everywhere on the Martin-Sandy- Simon- Rose things. I find it all very interesting. Oh and they mention Mary in this episode.
