Jane's husband appears in this episode but only the back of his body is shown.
The title of the book Lucy throws through the church window is called The Answer is Home. Conincidently, this is one of the lines in the shows theme song.
The trailer for this episode contains scenes from the episode "And I'll Take the Low Road".
When Ruthie calls Matt, she leaves a message saying pick up the phone before I run out of....(cut off) minutes, but in the next scene Ruthie calls Martin, she has minutes. If you were not paying attention, you might have thought she had gone over, but she actually used a calling card after she was done talking to Matt.
Matt, Mary and Simon (off screen) all call Lucy and Kevin saying that Ruthie had called saying Annie and Eric where getting a divorce. It turns out to be a miss conclusion from Ruthie.
Martin and Sandy make plans to get married after Martin's game the following day.
When Lucy is sitting in Eric's desk, you see pictures of Matt and Sarah with their twins. Mary and Carlos with their twins and Charlie. Then there's a picture of young Simon, and a current picture of Ruthie. Two pictures of Lucy, one old and one from last season; one of Kevin and a family picture of the Kinkirks. Lastly a picture of Annie and Eric together, from season one.
Jane reveals, to Kevin, that she married a Private in the Army, only to get his "benefits" and that they're only been married for three weeks.
After being absent from the first six episodes of the season, Mackenzie Rosman (Ruthie) returns and is also now in the opening credits.
Ruthie: My parents would never get a divorce. Scottish Boy: That's what we all say.
Sandie: (speaking to Lucy) You have to get me out of this relationship with Daniel! What was I thinking! He's so...weird!
Ruthie: (after she finds out both her parents are coming to Scotland) Oh no, not the two of them! That means its not a visit, its a kidnapping! Well, they're not bringing me back. I'm not going to be here. I'm not! I'll run away!
Lucy: I have to get down to the Church, so, um.....have a nice day. Kevin: You're just going to go to work? Lucy: Yeah. Kevin: And you can do that? Lucy: I'm fine. Kevin: Can't we just go outside and-- Lucy: No. Don't.....don't say anything else to me.
David: (in response to Lucy's foul mood) Women! Kevin: And by that you mean? Sam: Grrrr!
Ruthie: You don't understand. This is my life we're talking about. It's not your life, it's mine. I love it here. I am perfectly happy being halfway across the world--away from the Church, and Dad, and the school where you and Matt and Mary and Simon all went to. I'm not the preacher's kid anymore, I'm just Ruthie Camden. Do you know how great it is to just be Ruthie Camden without everyone knowing I'm the preacher's kid? I love it. I'm a normal girl here--I just want to be normal! Lucy: Normal is completely overrated. And quit whining about being the preacher's kid. What's wrong with being the preacher's kid? There are a lot worse things to be. You know, maybe you'd like to be the daughter of a.....a bad person!
Lucy: (to the photograph of her parents on her father's desk) You could have told me.
Ruthie: I'm running out of minutes on my phone. Thanks a lot for the help, sis. You obviously don't know what being a minister is all about. Haven't you ever seen Dad work? He helps people. You're supposed to help people, even if they're family. So if you can't even handle that, then why don't you just drop out of the ministry? (hangs up, while a shocked and angry Lucy redials the phone; Ruthie picks up again) Yeah? Lucy: Okay, you know what? That was a low blow, but I get it. You need help, to live your life without any disturbances, because you don't want to be disturbed. Well, I hate to tell you, Ruthie, but I think we're all about to be disturbed in a very big way, and I think that may be the reason that Mom and Dad are coming to see you and ask you to come home!
Lucy: (about Eric and Annie leaving to get Ruthie from Scotland) They just decided to take off, okay? Ruthie: And you let them? Lucy: I had nothing to do with it. They're our parents, they do what they want. Ruthie: Yeah, well, what about me? When do I get to do what I want? Lucy: Ruthie, they let you stay in Scotland for the semester. You were supposed to come home at the end of the summer. I think they've been pretty generous in letting you do what you want!
Ruthie: Don't even try to make me feel guilty. It's not going to work! Lucy: Who are you? Ruthie: I told you. I'm not the preacher's kid anymore. I'm me. I'm Ruthie Camden!
Ruthie: I don't want to be just sitting there and watching Dad be sick. I mean, he's going to be fine--he's had heart surgery before! Lucy: That.....that's incredibly selfish, don't you think?
Lucy: I think you've been over there a little too long, because you're starting to sound like a brat! And look here, little sister--when Mom and Dad show up, you better act as if you're happy to see them. Ruthie: Why? Lucy: Because they're your parents! They're your mom and dad, and you should be grateful that you even have a mother and father! Ruthie: Yeah, well, I'm not right now, okay? They just want to ruin my life!
Kevin: How is he? Lucy: He's on the roof, but he's not going anywhere if I can help.
Lucy: Is he dying, Kevin? Kevin: He's got an enlarged heart. Lucy: Can you die from an enlarged heart? How long do you think he has to live? Kevin: Maybe a year, but they don't know. Lucy: Yeah they don't know.
Catherine Hicks (Annie) does not appear in this episode.
