This episode marked the only appearance in the series of Captain Howard, the commander of the 87th Precinct. In the novels on which the series was based Howard was mostly mentioned in passing and rarely appeared.
In the novel on which this episode is based, Killer's Wedge, the character of Virginia Colt is named Virginia Dodge. Perhaps Dodge automobiles was a sponsor of the show and thus the change of name.
Meyer: There are 186 patrolmen attached to this precinct. Would you like me to account for all of them? Virginia: YES!
Virginia (to Meyer): Go ahead. Take a big gamble. Let's blow up the whole building.
Meyer: There are eight million people out there. Virginia: And not one of them can help you.
Havilland (to Virginia): Never a dull moment around here. Mind if I take my hat off, lady?
Angelica (about her stabbing victim): I hope the pig rots in his grave. Havilland: Nice girl.
Angelica: Why don't you let me go? Virginia: You gotta be kiddin', Chiquita.
Virginia: Life's no good without a man.
This episode is based on Ed McBain's novel Killer's Wedge.
Constance Ford played matriarch Ada Davis on the long-running NBC daytime drama Another World from that show's premiere in 1964 until her death from cancer in 1993.
Margarita Cordova should be well-remembered by fans of the 1997-99 NBC daytime drama Sunset Beach. She played the eccentric Carmen Torres on that show.
Weird, no one has discussed 87th Precinct yet.
