This show needs a conservative character.

Lets face it, 90210 is not very consistent with characterization, but since they're introducing new characters like Austin (who although awful, has been pretty consistent), the show should have a conservative character. Everyone at this point has let go of any morals (pretty much), they need a character like this to balance the rest out, and she would remain consistent. Don't know what I mean? For Secret Life of American Teenager, it was Grace. For Degrassi, it was Darcy/Clare/Emma-for some time, for BH90210, it was Donna. Someone who just is very just and fair and moral-guided would be a very interesting spin and it would be funny have this character in the room with Naomi, now that would bring some good dynamics. Of course, the show tried this with the parents as the principled people but now they're all gone. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Hmm. I think they tried this with Annie at first but people thought it was boring so they added more "edge" to her. Plus I always thought that the idea behind BH was that everyone is out to get things their own way and has a deep dark secret, which is why they added more edge to Annie, to show how shes assimilated into that. I personally find those types a little boring and "Mary Sue"ish but if they added in one it wouldnt be the end of the world. My problem with the show is more of the consistency and the timing of the SLs more than the actual characters themselves but again, Im always open to suggestions, these are just my feelings.

I'm not sure if conservative is the right word, but 90210 needs a more relaxed character.

I think 90210 needs two things; more exciting, dramatic storylines and a humourous character.

In BH 90210 (SPOILERS) Kelly had an eating disorder, she got burned in a fire and was depressed about it, she joined a cult, had a cocaine addiction, went to rehab, had psycho roommate who tried to kill her, got pregnant and had miscarriage, got shot and suffered amnesia, was raped and she shot her rapist.

90210 also need a funny character like Steve from BH 90210. They need a character to provide comic relief if they ended up giving characters more intense storylines.

Yeah..As I said, they tried that with Annie but it was kind of bleh and then came Rhonda and she wasnt really anything special either. IDK if the show cant really handle "nice" characters well or what but yeah.

Yep. Id agree with this. Im always down for dramatic SLs and the characters arent nearly as funny as they used to be. Even Naomi, who I personally find to be the most funny, has lost her edge a long time ago.

Hey Jon! Do agree with you on the relaxed character thing, although I think they sort of achieve this with Ivy, and there is some comic relief in the Dixon/Navid interactions (or at least there was) and like someone else said, Naomi is supposed to be funny, but I don't find her hysterical either.

I did noticed they tried this with Annie but I realize it keeps changing. Lately Silver has been the moral-guided one, but its switched from Annie to Dixon to Silver and to Adrianna even at one point. But that just goes with what you said about the consistency with the characters.

Canoga, i forget that you watch Degrassi also. have you kept up with the current seasons? i myself have stopped at season 10, although i would love to get back on it. when you mentioned Darcy/Emma, i got a bit nostalgic there. lol. as for the characters.... it's season four. honestly, if they wanted improvement they should have done this a long long time ago. season 1 was sheer brilliance. i may sound repetitive for always that, but it's true. what this show needs is proper direction and spark. let it have ONE voice, and one voice only. after season 2, the show has been in every direction which caused a rift in all these characters, ultimately destroying and damaging them in the process. Silver's long gone, right now they make her as this almighty person but just last season she was "the other girl" and not quite sure if they've redeemed her for that yet. i find Naomi hysterical though, but that's all she's good for, the comedy. Ivy is relaxed but has this tendency to stray away when things go rough, like Nae and Holly bumping into each other at school, Ivy runs off and says "i don't want to be part of a murder scene" or somewhere along those lines. in other words, she's a relaxed, no balls kind of chick. this show has lost its value to be quite frank, it no longer has its family dynamics, which was something i loved watching. when these kids were put to the test and faced with extreme situations, they had these higher, more experienced figures like the adults to help them get back on track and guide the way. now that they're the adults they have to help each other and since nobody has morals anymore....... who has the right to give the proper advice? for instance, when Dixon was asking Annie for advice about Ade.. (the motorcycle scene) and awkwardly Annie tries telling him a girl has to do what a girl has to do (of course mentioning her prostitution storyline) and now she's trying to lecture Liam on his hit and run love affair which Annie also has no right in giving advice on. she's being a double hypocrite. my point being, the characters don't have a good basic foundation of who they really are. they've been everything, from the other girl/guy, ms. nudy-nude, drug taker, manipulator, the one being cheated on, etc etc. looking back at season 1 and comparing the characters back then to who they are now.... i don't see any connection . and i'm not sure adding any more characters will help the show, since they obviously can't handle that. the more they add characters, the more i feel they are wrecking the show. what this show needs now is to go back to how it once was. f*ck these characters up, have the real life thrown at them, and let them f*ck up each other. i'm tired of seeing sunshines and waves, let the drama kick in.

Wow, Comeback, you made a great post and I completely agree. I know Ive been saying this and I feel like Im beating a dead horse, for a lack of a better phrase, but they really shouldve just skipped college. I think it wouldve been interesting to see where their lives were after college was over and they were really out on their own doing their own thing. Then if they make mistakes or cant give each other advice its okay because they are all trying to figure out life together. Instead they are only 18 but they make them act like they are all 30 and it just doesnt gel well. You need one or the other. Plus its interesting to see how all the characters would come together after 4 years, and if they made mistakes, like if someone became addicted to drugs or something, then that would bring in drama too. Instead, its like all of this stuff is supposed to change and they are supposed to act like adults when just 3 months prior they were having catfights and cheating on each other's love interests. It just doesnt work. Hopefully Im making sense lol.

Man, these are great posts guys, you both kind of summed up my thoughts about this show. Comeback, I do watch Degrassi but I don't enjoy it throughly as much I used too. Wasn't season 10 the last season? I don't know it gets a bit confusing with all these 'chapters': "The Boiling Point" "In Too Deep" "Now or Never"? What is up with that? Haha. I know 90210 should have done this a long time ago, but since they haven't, I'm kind of just thinking of what they can do at this point and the 'conservative' moral-guided character came to mind when thinking of other shows that have tried this formula and it worked. I don't think S1 was 'sheer brilliance' as you put it but it was the best season, I think we put it up so high because the other seasons pale compare to it. I think its funny that all the girls have been 'the other girl' except Naomi. To be honest, I don't like Naomi, I understood that she was snobby and stuck up to begin with but you would think her parents splitting up, he bf's cheating on her, her getting raped would transform her personality for the better (Like Paige from DTNG heh) but nope, its the same Naomi. The reason I liked the episode with Liam & Teddy stealing a race car so much was because they went back to dealing with issues and extreme situations without adding the ridiculous story lines that are impossible to fathom. And you are so right that the characters have all been 'one kind of person' at one point, its like seriously? Next thing you know Annie is going to become a drug addict. Ok and while I'm at it, did ANYONE like the Jasper story line. I miss him soooo much!

Also wanted to add: remember the time when Silver was all upset that Navid's sis was staying. And she said, 'I can't believe I have to take care of a teenager!' Its like Silver had just graduated HS! Def. agree on the time jump.

why thank you, Stellar (= it would be very interesting if they skipped the college years, but also a big risk. although, i think it would've been a smarter choice since there are no more adults so it would seem logical for them to just be the adults themselves by being in their 20's. i don't think we will see all four years of their college lives......lol but that;s just me.

season 10 was the beginning of .... the takeover, if you will. the newbies took over. lol did you know Angela (Cassie Steele's little sister) actually came back to the show?! but get this: she came back as a different character. Tori. i read it online. i miss Degrassi and i would love to catch up, i just don't have the time. i'm not a fan of Nae as well. who's your favorite character? and yes, i do miss the Jasper storyline as well. this show shines when dealing with dark elements. i feel like they're straying away from that. i want somebody to have another mental breakdown. an internal struggle. man, ANYTHING. these writers are taking it easy on the characters. yeah we got to see Liam get hit by a car. wooptee doodle doo. it was a bit predictable, i want an unexpected turn of events.

Exactly!! I had high hopes with that when it came to Annies prostitutions storyline.....nope. Then I thought maybe with Dixons "drug addiction" storyline....nope. Then like you said, maybe Liam and the car accident.....nope. Ade with her OWN daughter that she gave up for adoption....nope. I feel like the writers are either taking the easy way out, as you said, or that they are like high school students trying to write an adult show so they never put in the "meaty" part of the episodes we need to see to get from point A to point B.

You know what's funny Stellar is that the writers actually just put out a interview based off of next week's episode and when discussing this season's SL's they were gloating like it was just the best thing since Elvis. I mean, they really think they're shit don't stink and oh how I wanted to pop that idiotic little bubble lol

I know that is what is the most annoying about it is that they don't do their research so they're just sitting there like they're rocking it, completely oblivious to how the viewers really feel.

Exactly. In the end its just the show that loses (and them) when it gets pulled off the air. I mean there have been times where we've complained about this show in the past, but Ive never seen it this bad where a lot less people are discussing the episodes and if they do, then its for a negative reason...theres gotta be something to be said for that

I agree. The fact that there's only 3 or 4 of us at most that ever discuss the show on a regular basis, I think, speaks volumes. Personally, I think this is the worst it's ever been. I mean, I've had complaints before but I've never been to the point where I thought the show was so terrible that I was only continuing to watch out of loyalty, like the way I am now. Btw, this may have been discussed before and just fleeted my memory but what are your favorite to least favorite of the four seasons??
