  • It's all about the family

I have to admit that I didn't like the idea of this show. I don't know if I have said this before. But after watching this episode, I admit that I like it and that if they can keep the good stories, well this show can go on and on.

A very important topic: family. Everything is perfect with the Wilsons, but Erin (as her older sister did) suffers for not having one of her own. I like how they could fit Erin in this new series so the appearance of Kelly Taylor wouldn't feel forced. And Naomi's perfect world comes apart when she finds out about her dad. Who nees who then?

This episode brings back something that is missing nowadays, when what most teenagers are thinking of is sex, glamour and gossip. Life is more than that. It's about what you can learn from other people and what you can leave on them.

I'm not a teenager, so I guess most of you won't agree with me. It's ok.
  • Have I mentioned how much I love Silver? If not, well, here you go: I love Silver. Not just because she's exactly the kind of person I would be friends with, but also because of how she brings Annie and Dixon together.

As the episode started I was a bit worried that it would be, well, terrible. Family night? Really? Although that plot line has been done to death, this show managed to avoid a lot of the tackiness that comes along with the plot. The biggest drawback was that it came out of nowhere. Harry and Debbie couldn't have missed their kids that much considering they just, JUST got settled in at their new home. Family night as a plot device would have worked better a few more episodes later.

However, it did serve as the backdrop for some further exposition of Silver's plot. She was willing to go to a "lame" family night with Dixon... A little suspicious, but it fit considering she was desperate to avoid going home. I'm glad that side of the story got resolved (at least for now) when it did; it could have been dragged on, but thankfully the big secret came out. The Wilson family handled in nicely as well. Great people huh?

Naomi... I thought she was kind of mean, but GOD is her family messed up. What she saw, and then, even worse, what Mom had to say about it... I honestly did not expect that. McCord plays being hurt fairly well. The druggy friend of hers needs to go though. Bored with that story. I actually hope the girl gets arrested; nothing to like about her at all.

What ruined the Naomi thing for me though was that she found consolation in Ethan. So, dad cheats. Naomi cries in Ethan's arms. Ethan cheated on her. I kind of want to sympathize with her but she's making it so hard!

Mr. Matthews may be the coolest character though. Really... Cool. I'm so glad the writers don't make him a completely smooth guy--he's constantly fumbling and saying the wrong thing to Kelly, which is so realistic. That's exactly how I act around girls when I'm on a date.

Dixon's line towards the end- "She can stay in my room?!" A little easy, but the delivery was so honest.

A very entertaining episode. The cliche was there, but the pitfalls of it were avoided. Bowling alley was great. Silver the bowler... Hopefully we'll see more of that?

Annie and Dixon's Friday night plans come to a screeching halt when they learn that Harry and Debbie have planned a family bowling night. Harry must confront his past when Tracy, Naomi's mom, confronts him about their illegitimate child he fathered in high school. Ty shows up at the bowling alley, causing Annie to choose between spending time with him or Ethan. Naomi finds out her father is cheating on her mother and her mother knows. Dixon discovers Silver asleep in her car, prompting Kelly to confront their mother Jackie about the repercussions of her alcoholic behavior. I'm really enjoying 90210, the episodes are so fun to watch. I love the whole storyline, I wasn't sure about the adults storyline at the start of the season, but now I like where the writers are going withthis. My favourite characters so far are Ethan, Dixon and Annie. Everyone else is really good too, but those are amazing! I loved the scenes at the bowling alley and outside them, they were enjoying to watch. I can't wait to see more of 90210.
  • Family Night comes to Beverley Hills

In this episode of 90210, the following happens. Dixon agrees to go and watch a movie with his La Cross team and Annie agrees to a date with Ty and just when everything sees perfect a bomb is dropped. Debbie and Harry (their parents) organise a family night for the same night as Dixon and Annie have things on. So they come up with a plan and have all of their friend's just "turn up" at the bowling alley where they are having family night, so that they can both leave early to be with their friends. Silver is the first to arrive and the parental's say it's ok for Silver to hang with them and play bowling together, all 5 of them. We soon learn from Kelly that Sammy (her sons)'s father is a guy that she went to High School with. So who could it be? Only time will tell.

Soon all of their friends turn up and they leave. When the 5 of them return home, Silver quickly leaves to return home. But when Dixon takes out the trash that same night, he finds Silver inside of her car asleep. We soon learn that Kelly and Silver's mother is still an alcoholic and that instead of going home Silver has been staying at a woman's shelter.

Naomi soon finds out that her father is having an affair. When Silver tells Dixon about her mother, Dixon tells her that he knows what it's like to be around an alcoholic. And so he manages to convince her to let him tell his father (her principal) about the situation. So they agree that Silver should stay until everything gets figured out. The next morning Kelly is at Harry's house discussing Silver and the whole situation. Naomi tells her mother about the affair and we learn that she already knows about it and has done for a while, and even knows her name (it's Gail). Kelly goes round to her mother's and we learn that her mother believed that she was staying at a friend house for the past couple of weeks. Silver returns home and all hell breaks loose. And so Kelly decides that Silver should live with her for now, since her mother is drinking and possibly doing drugs again. The next morning Debbie and Harry wake up to a full breakfast prepared for them by their children, Annie and Dixon.

really, nothing special... can't understand why I still watching it. guess, just wanna know who's the father of Kelly's son and if there is some future for her relationship with Ryan. plus, wanna see more Kelly/Brenda friendship moments -- I missed it a lot since the end of 4th season of original "90210".

see, it's the 3rd episode of new show but I'm still talking about old one... think, that means this "90210" is not so great, at least for me.

    FAVE SCENE: Kelly/Jackie/Silver scene.

  • Mortification, Bowling, Relationship Crashing

    "Great"
Ahhh family 'fun' night at the bowling alley. Annie and Dixon are forced to go bowling with the family, and both are trying to get their friends to join them and get them out of it. Hee. I really liked this storyline because it is so true, the parents want bonding time with the kids and the kids are mortified. It was really well written and ended up being quite humorous. Poor Naomi gets stood up by her father, but he makes up for it with a shiny new car. Kelly and Ryan go on their date. It's really difficult to see where this relationship is going. I don't think the couple have very good chemistry, so it's nearly painful to watch them interact. Silver waxes introspective when she admits that she wishes she could have fun like the Wilson's do ... but with her own mother. Silver is a pretty sad character, she's trying to get away from her mom, by staying in a shelter. Later though Dixon finds her sleeping in her car. He invites her to stay the night. What a nice guy!!! It seems as though Naomi's life is going to come crashing down around her, when she sees her father making out with a woman other than her mother. Naomi's shocked, I'm not though, someone's parents had to be getting divorced. It's just par for the Beverly Hills course. All in all ... fun and interesting episode.

    "Good"
after last weeks abysmal premiere, i was only going to give the show one more chance. i was expecting this episode to be horrible, but was amazed at how good it was. i feel that this probably has to do with the story following Silver, who i feel is the most likeable character on the show and the only one i care about. she is having problems with her mother drinking again and is living in a shelter. she is afraid of being found out, but in the end Annie and Dixon help her out and her sister takes her to live with her. this was a much more emotional plot than the first week's and you feel for Silver. if Silver gets played more in the show, i'm sure i'll keep watching. otherwise, we'll see.
  • What's next?

    8.8
    "Great"
I have to say I found this episode less entertaining than the series premiere. This one had a sense of "déjà vu". Here we go again with Kelly's alcoholic mum, Naomi who finds about her dad's infidelity, the Kansas family who just like the Walsh have strange traditions that are completely lame in BH...

Apart from that the acting is still very good and the soundtrack very great. It's sas however that some stories announced in the first episode are completely missing - Harry's illegitimate child. I also still have the feelling that the former crew doesn't mingle with the new one. Kelly is a student counsellor and yet she only talks to Harry or her sister. Of course there's the nagging question: who's the father of Kelly's child? Three options: Steve, Dylan or Brandon. My preference goes to the latter.

But she says they went out in high school and with Brandon it only started in college. In high school they just shared a kiss if I remember well. I guess the revelation of the identity will depend on which actor finally decides to join the show.
  • A friendly episode, for those who don't like too much drama.

    10
    "Perfect"
Watching this episode really boosted me up. When you're down, this is exactly what you need to make you believe in friendship and love again. I mean, sure, the parents made Annie and Dixon go to family night, but doesn't that show us that they love the kids? And it turned out to be a fun night too. Well, for most of them. I sort of feel sorry for Naomi, finding out about her dad like that and then realizing her mom knew. But maybe that's what she deserved. She ruined Silver's life when her dad cheated on her mom, now karma does her job. It will be no second when it will be all around school. I still feel bad for her, but that's what you get for being a self-centered, arrogant and manipulating *****. I really liked that this episode showed the strong bonds between Annie, Dixon and their friends. But of course, Ty showed up. Maybe I'm subjective, but I don't like him with Annie. I have a feeling he's got some skeletons in his closet. This episode makes me want friends like that and parents who understand.

Definitely worth watching if you like calm and nice episodes. Since I do, I give it a 10.
  • After watching the double series premiere I thought we were in for some mildly entertaining teen drama, but this episode just totally crushed those expectations.

    3.3
    "Bad"
This episode, "Lucky Strike", sets the tone for what's to be expected of the rest of the first season, I think. Boring, cliché family drama. All the plotlines were extremely uninteresting or done a million times already. The acting was bad and sometimes I felt like I was watching one of those good ol' family comedies - without the actual comedy, of course. Silver's storyline should've been the most intruiging of all this week - mum an alcoholic, Silver sleeping at a Woman's shelter etc. etc. - but it just wasn't. Too predictable and also why would someone even let Silver in at that Woman's shelter? Shouldn't they keep free some spots for actual needy people? I mean, this conflict got resolved at the end of "Lucky Strike": Silver moved in with her sister. Now, was that so hard to accomplish? BORING.

The main story focused on the "Cosby" parents forcing a family night on their kids. BORING.

Naomi's Dad has a little something on the side and Naomi's mom knew about it for two years already. Shock! BORING. I'm not going to continue watching this dribble.
  • The Wilson's want to have family night, but Annie and Dixon have other ideas.

    8.6
    "Great"
One thing living in Beverly Hills, California that I know and I do not even live there, families do not have Family Bowling Night! The Wilson's wanted to get Annie and Dixon to go along with them for a bowling night of fun but they both had other plans. Annie has a date with Ty and Dixon has a guys' night to watch the new James Bond movie with his friends. Well, the two siblings decide to have all of their friends and "dates" meet them at the bowling alley. It turns out that Mr. and Mrs. Wilson knew what was going on and gave their children permission to go out. Meanwhile, while driving to her father's office, Naomi catches her dad kissing another woman. When Naomi tells her mom, her mom tells her she knows all about it. Kelly's mom, Ann, is back and we see that little has changed since her days on BH90210. She is still drinking and we see that she is making Silver's life hell just like she made Kelly's. Kelly decides to take Silver and get her out of there and leave Ann to herself.

A really well-written, character-developing episode. It gave us a perspective of what each person is dealing with, especially Naomi and Erin Silver.
  • The Wilsons' organise a family bowling night at Lucky Strike to "bring a little Kansas to Beverly Hills".

    8.7
    "Great"
This is our first glimpse at the Naomi/Ethan saga, post-break up. At best, things are icy. Naomi has thrown herself into planning her vegas trip. But disaster strikes when Naomi realises that her dad is cheating on her mum! She leans on Ethan to help her get through it and is shocked to discover that her mother has known about the affair all along. It's a shocking revelation, and the irony is present as this is the same issue that broke up the friendship between Silver and Naomi. Silver on the other hand, is struggling with issues of her own. Her "sheek post rehab look" is really because she's been staying at a women's shelter in an attempt to avoid her alcoholic mother. She tries to hide this from everyone, but Dixon discovers Silver sleeping in her car and confronts her about it. Dixon reveals that he hasn't always lived with the "Cosby Family" (the Wilsons), and he knows what it's like to deal with alcoholics. It's a surprising but pleasant friendship as we start to see evidence of Dixon having a crush on Silver. Annie on the other hand finds it difficult to be in sync with Ty, their date is sabotaged firstly by the bowling night, next by the fact Ty is late because he was at Chris Brown's party... and lastly because Naomi has shown up at Lucky Strike in a confused and furious state. I'm not sure what is happening with Annie, because there's a few special moments shared with Ethan in this episode. Ethan however has started to up his game, he is a lot more likeable in this episode and when he steps up to take care of Naomi, it felt like he was a decent guy. Contrast this to Ty, who leaves Annie and their date plans by sending her a text message! Kelly reveals more about her life in this episode, we see her little boy Sammy and also see her relationship with Ryan bloom. She also kicks ass when she confronts her alcoholic mother about the way she has been acting around Silver. Overall, an exciting and fun episode. Loved the drama with Silver, loved Annie's confusion over both Ethan and Ty, loved Dixon and Silver's chemistry! Can't wait to see what happens next!
  • Family Night.

    9.2
    "Superb"
LUCKY STRIKE! - Harry and Debbie plan a family fun night with Annie and Dixon at Lucky Strike bowling alley. But, Annie and Dixon really don't want to go because they have other plans. So, Annie and Dixon go behind their parents' back and invite some friends to casually show up at Lucky Strike, and then hopefully their parents will cave and let them go hang out with their friends. Dixon invites Silver, who really enjoys herself at the Lucky Strike because she doesn't really have family. So, family fun night sounded good to her. What Annie and Dixon really didn't know was that their parents' knew that they invited their friends to the bowling alley.

This was a good episode. Every episode gets a little better. I especially liked how they are tying Kelly into the teen storylines' and how she at least has a reason to be on the show. Silver's older sister.

Let me just start out by saying that I absolutely loved this episode. However, while I loved this episode, I wish that they had featured Tabitha in this episode, especially in the whole Wilson family bowling night. I really missed not having her in the episode. I have to say that after seeing this episode, I absolutely love Ethan. He's definitely a very interesting character, and I can't wait to learn more about him in future episodes. This episode definitely made me feel sorry for Naomi, and it also made me like her a little bit more. Although, I still don't like her as much as all of the other characters. I absolutely Silver in this episode. She is definitely my favorite character, right along with Navid. I felt so sorry for her with all the issues that she has with her mother, Jackie, and Jackie drinking again. I'm glad that she moved in with Kelly. I loved all of Kelly's scenes with Ryan. I think that they have great chemistry together. I loved that Annie and Dixon's friends crashed the family's bowling night. I also loved Navid's comment about having his own bowling ball. Dixon and Silver seemed like they could make a great couple based on their scenes together in this episode. All things consider, I thought that this was a very well written, well acted, well made episode of 90210 from everyone involved, and I can't wait to see the next episode.
  • Family night and Family drama.

    7.9
    "Good"
The Wilson parents want to have a nice time with the family for the first time, since they moved to Beverly Hills. Like normal teenagers Dixon and Annie don't really feel like having fun with mom and dad on a friday night, so they "secretly" invite friends to pick them up... Surprisingly Annie enjoys spending time with Ethan a little too much. Trouble will be coming up.

Meanwhile Naomi discovers that Ethan was not the only one with an affair. Her dad betrays her mum with another women and her mother knows!!! Why didn't it surprise me? Naomi finds company in Ethan. Annie is surprised how easy it was for the two to find back together in bad times. Even more trouble will be coming up. We don't have a triangle, but a Naomi - Ethan - Annie - Ty square.

So much teendrama so few screentime for the old cast of 90210 1.0! I want to see more of Jenny Garth and Brenda, though Shannen Doherty didn't want to do more than 4 episodes this season. A little disappointing was the acting of Tristan Wilds and Jessica Stroup after Lucky Strike and the Bond Movie. Really good job by AnnaLynne McCord also her character is much easier to understand after this episode.

Though a lot of character development happened. The masses of advertisment for this show made it hard to satisfy everyone... Tendency cumulative!
  • The Walshes 2.0 go bowling, while Naomi deals with some daddy drama while I yawn. But at least, Kelly and Silver's family drama was interesting enough. Too bad, it didn't happen until the very end of the ep.

    7.0
    "Good"
Watching the latest ep of 90210 2.0, I notice how much the new series reminds me of the early days of the original, that is, when the Walshes first moved to BH and were so *gasp* wholesome. This was before all the love triangles and melodrama that eventually enveloped the show. New 90210 is just like that, but I wonder how long until the racy stuff comes into play.

I must say, the CW did a good job marketing this episode, because I got suckered into watching this thinking it would be about Kelly, Silver and their pill-popping, hard-drinking mama. But, imagine to my surprise, the scene was in the last 5 minutes of the ep. I wonder how many old school fans were tricked into that one? And no Brenda!!

Anyway, while the Wilsons are wholesome enough, their story seemed a little bland. And where was Grandma?! So Mom and Pops Wilson feel there's not enough family time, so... let's go... bowling!! The fact that Dixon and Annie didn't want to be there and had other plans just wasn't compelling enough for any real dramatic tension. Plus, Naomi and her daddy issues bored me to tears. The Ethan/Naomi/Annie triangle is also not doing it for me. While I like Kelly, I just don't see the sparks between her and Mr. Matthews. The only story I liked was Silver and her issues, but that was reduced to the background until pretty much the end of the ep when Dixon found her sleeping in her car and Kelly confronted their mother.

My advice: More Silver (and Grandma), less Naomi.
  • The new 90210 is trying to find itself as the worthy successor to it's namesake. However, at the moment it is following the most typical storylines that we have seen before.

    7.6
    "Good"
I am in no way saying that last nights episode of 90210 was bad, just instead painfully average. It seems that the show is trying to follow main teen soap ideas with alcoholic mothers, forced family events, and the ever classic love triangles. It's just hard to feel like you are watching a brand new show, but instead almost a remake 10 years later. With that negativity stated, there is still humor to be had, and the storyline revolving around Silver flows very well, in particular her scenes with Dixon. We also start to see into the past of Dixon, giving us a clue of who he was before joining the main family (who's surname currently escapes me). In a way, Dixon is the character of the story who starts to move outside of the typical, and is instead someone with actual originality. The same cannot be said about Annie, who's scenes with Tigh have no real romance in them, while her ones with Ethan actually flow decently well. Naomi's storyline did absolutely nothing for me, as I just didn't care about it. The twist with her mother was predictable, but hopefully it moves the show forward in Naomi's character and make her less one dimensional. With that said, the show isn't terrible, just at the moment it it is completely average and needs to finds it own legs, and the Lucky Strike didn't do it.
  • Annie and Dixon's Friday night plans are cancelled after Harrry and Debbie plan a family bowling. Ethan, Navid & Silver show up at bowling and Harry and Debbie feel they have lost control of their family night. Naomi leanrs something new about her father.

    "Perfect"
This a very big improvement from the first episode.

in the first episode the actors felt a little out of place an akward, but i really felt that that the acting felt more natural in this time. This episode finally gives us a reason to watch the show and a reason to care about the characters. We get a great insight to the lives and families of some of the characters. i feel that this show could actually be as good as the original if people gave it a chance. Cause most shows take some time to really get started with the true storylinesand ''action''.

So all in all i really liked this episode, and i will keep watching. and i really hope that i will get a full season :)

am giving this show one more shot, only because it's supposed to be the teenshow right now. this episode was a mild improvment from last weeks series premier.

the chemistry between kelly and ryan is wierd, and why is she so hung up on the fact that ryan isnt freaked up by the fact that she has a kid, feels like she is the one umcomforble with having a kid(i really want to know who sammys dad is!!!) it was wonderful to see jackie again, druk as she may be.

how come kelly didnt intervene before, i mean she knew something was off, how come silver wasnt living with her to begin with.

did anyone get a flashback to the original series season one when donna caught he mother having an affair, when naiomi caught her dad, and what on earth is up with naiomis mom, staying in the relationship all the while knowing her husband is cheating, is she having an affair too? and oh that "freak out" naiomi had in the parking lot of the bowling alley, wasnt really much of a freak out....

chemistry between ethan and annie still needs ALOT of work!!! dixon and silver on the other hand... nice to hear some of dixons story, there was some much needed explination

there is plenty more to say, but im tired,

so all in all this episode didnt suck hopefully the series will improve even more....
  • I totally love this show. :D

This episode is exactly why I watch this. Silver's storyline was amazing, and wow; Jessica Stroup is such a talented actress. And Naomi /AnnaLynne McCord was so amazing too. The writing is really good. Some things are a little boring to my humble opinion though. Ty and Ethan, Annie in the middle, her being with Ty but getting jealous when Ethan only HELPS Naomi because they are FRIENDS and she's having a hard time. Sure, okay, it's totally obvious that they want Ethan and Annie as a couple, but then why bring in the boy? This is so boring and triangles should be so over. I don't like them. But Silver and Dixon are soooo cool. And Silver is just the most amazing character. Loved it.

Maybe the writers read my last episode review lol

I predicted that dixon and silver were gonna hook up and it seems as tho they are heading that way. Good i think they are perfect for each other.

Ryan and kelly ? not so much, ryan is way too young for her, she needs someone older, and i do think they should keep her around permenantly.

It was really great to see Jackie again, but i was very surprised at her longer hair and her being a drunk again as i thought she had kicked the habit in the original.

Very cool that kelly took silver in, i like that .

Kelly son sammy, definitely dylans, no question now, (we dated in high school hadnt seen each other in a while, had a 1 night stand)and im really diappointed because in my head i always thought him and brenda would end up with each other.

Strange tho that they seem to be going with the whole deadbeat dad thing because after what dylans dad did to him you would think that he would stick around to see his own son grow up.

Some ppl are mentioning brandon as the father but there is no way that brandon would leave his son, he was not that type of guy plus he loved kelly and he couldnt ever leave her with his son, no way !!

Im loving the annie, ethan storyline, he is so totally in love with her, i think its cute.

Apart from that great filler, keep them coming xx

Well I'm really starting to like this show especially after this episode because I like how this show isn't caked with drama, there is a bright, light, funny side to the plot. Well I like how the new triangle began between Ty, Annie & Ethan. It is revealed that Silver is homeless, you didn't see that one coming, very surprising, and finally Naomi's dad is having an affair. But they made it a bit funny since most f the time they were having fun bowling & all. Um I really think Jennie Garth should be a regular, she fits in so perfectly, the teacher continues to pursue her, through the whole episode, they kiss. Hidden Plot! Last ten minutes of the show, Kelly & her mom argue over Silver's whereabouts. And I could definitely see Silver & Dixon dating. A light great episode!
  • Family Night

    7.7
    "Good"
This episode was an okay follow up to the first two shows. The premise of this 'sode is that family relationships and friendships can overlap. Annie, Dixon and their parents cancel all big plans, and go together to the Lucky Strike. No, this is not a reference to non-filter cigarettes---rather the Lucky strike is a bowling ally. For Annie and Dixon, family night eventually turns into friends night.

The mutual attraction between Ethan and Annie grows, but again nothing happens. More interestingly, Silver and Dixon seem to hit it off, and end up sharing personal life stories with one another. Kelly confronts their (her and Silver's) mom about her drinking, and Silver ends up moving in with Kelly and her son. There will be more about this plot line to come---you can count on it!

Hope next week's episode is better. This one didn't really leave wanting more like the previous episode had. I think a more modern spin on things is necessary. The problems of family and friends aren't exactly the same as they were 20 years ago----when the original 90210 aired. This show shouldn't try to be that show. It has Kelly, and Brenda (as a guest star), and that's good enough. They provide the continuity thats needed. The plots can be and should be different and more modern than B.H. 90210 of the nineties.

    "Good"
90210 returned tonight for its first hour long episode and it felt entering a time machine as it was reminiscent of the original series from the 90's. Instead of attempting the emulate the aura of Gossip Girl as the premiere did, it felt like a throwback to Beverly Hills, 90210, and in a good way. Sure, the dialogue resembles that of a Nickelodeon program, but it is one that you cannot seem to take your eyes off the screen. After the pilot there was a definitive vibe that following all the characters on this show would be laborious, yet things could not be further from that in this installment. The acting is far from great, but it sets out what it attempts to do, get you hooked on the show and leave you wanting more.

Shenae Grimes continues to do a fine job in the lead, and AnnaLynne McCord gave a strong emotional performance this hour. Jessica Stroup took the ball and ran with it this week and gave her seemingly generic struggle some fresh life and provided an entertaining plight. The lack of Jessica Walter was a mistake as the episode could've used some laughs, and of course Ryan Eggold fumbled his attempts at humor, so giving him screen time was a mistake.

All in all a fine episode and the CW Network is really outdoing itself this season.
