Whitley Gilbert had counted on celebrating her 21st birthday in style. She may instead do so in the doldrums: none of her so-called friends have invited her anywhere, so it looks like it'll be just her, some 'beverages,' and a photograph of Denzel Washington to commemorate the occasion. Little does Gilbert realize that her friends will indeed come through--Kim is setting up a proper fiesta as a surprise.

It's ladies-only, however, so Ron and Dwayne plot to circumvent the rules. They'll attend the event the old-fashioned way: they'll spy on it. They scale the wall and hope to catch a glimpse of the festivities. Instead, Ron takes a planer off the top of the stanchion, and is lucky he only incurs minor injuries. Walter makes time with the medic who came to help Johnson--a development not the least bit pleasing to his thought-to-be-steady interest Jaleesa.

That's *not* what friends are for, but you play the hand you've been dealt. Whitley patches things up with her boyfriend and heads into the next year of life with a smile after all.moreless

    • Although the implication is that Whitley had the same room as season 1, its physical location actually changed. In season 1, her room was located down the hall from Jaleesa's room. In seasons 2 and 3, Whitley's room was directly across the hall from Jaleesa.

    • In this episode, Dwayne and Ron climb the wall to peek into Whitley's room, but it was established in season 1 that she had a fire-escape outside of her window.

  • QUOTES (2)

    ADD QUOTES
    • (Whitley battling a hangover) Whitley: I will never buy another bottle of wine with 99 cents after the decimal point.

    • Whitley: Is anything interesting in that book, perhaps on page twenty one? Dwayne: What happens on page twenty one? Whitley: Let's just say its a important turning point in the heroine's life. Dwayne: It's Moby Dick! There is no heroine, unless you know something about Moby I don't.

    ADD NOTES
    • Denzel Washington was there when this episode was being taped. Debbie Allen invited him to watch the show and didn't tell anybody. He came in while Jasmine Guy was singing "Denzel, you rock my world" and not only did the audience go crazy when they saw him, but Jasmine went crazy as well and ran off the set.
