Episode Summary

Charmaine observes Whitley in the office as a sociology project. Whitley is dismayed to learn that her company has put a hold on all purchases until a merger is completed. Determined to hold onto one of the paintings, she convinces Dwayne to invest in it with her. The merger falls through, and Whitley (along with her entire department) is laid off. Dwayne promises to find a way to keep them afloat until she gets a new job. He takes Whitley to dinner to console her. They return to discover that they have been cleaned out by burglars. Kim and Freddie invite Ron and Shazza for dinner in the hopes that they can all make peace. Ron and Freddie cannot stand to see one another with other mates. They alternately flirt and act jealous, and everyone gets into a huge argument. Kim realizes that she and Ron have no chemistry, so they decide to break up. Ron stops short of telling her about his feelings for Freddie.moreless

  • Whatever can go wrong, will spiral out of control.

The ultra-energetic Charmaine asks to watch Whitley and write about her for a class paper. Unfortunately, it may turn into the worst week of Gilbert's year. Her boss reveals that the business, lagging in earnings after failing to complete a merger, no longer has room for its newest agent, and last hired is first to be shown the door. Despite this disaster, Dwayne swears he'll keep the couple afloat.

Meanwhile, four one-time friends try to seal a peace treaty with a dinner at home. Ron, Freddie, Kim and Shazza try to pretend that all is water under the bridge, but the facade doesn't work; old sparks die hard, and the former partners are soon jousting for a shot at a reunion.

A funny episode about bad luck and the way you can't kill real love. No matter how hard you try.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Wouldn't renter's insurance have taken care of some of the stolen items and the expense of rebuilding after a burglary?

    • Dwayne takes food out of the oven without using a potholder. Even if the oven was on warm, a metal pan would be too hot too pick up barehanded.

    • Whitley: They left me nothing but these wire hangers. I hate wire hangers! NO MORE WIRE HANGERS!!

A parody of the infamous line spoken in the classic biopic Mommie Dearest. When Joan Crawford (Faye Dunaway) finds that her daughter Christina Crawford (Mara Hobel) has been hanging her clothes on wire hangers, she has a fit that demonstrates Joan's dark, physical and mentally abusive behavior towards Christina.
