I truly love this episode because one of my favorite singers, Patti Labelle is the guest star playing DaWayne's mother. My favorite scene from this episode is the song that Ms. Labelle sings at the end.
All of the episodes that featured DaWayne and Whitley I truly enjoyed because I truly loved their courtship. I truly love this episode because one of my favorite singers, Patti Labelle is the guest star playing DaWayne's mother. My favorite seen from this episode is the song that Ms. Labelle sings at the end. I also liked the scene when Mother Wayne (Patti Labelle) realized that Whitley went out of her way to buy her a special gift because she had previously purchased a gift that she would not like. This is when Mother Wayne realized that Whitley really loved DaWayne Wayne (Chipmunk). This is one of Different World's best episodes.
Until you go meet them for the holidays. Then you figure out why you moved to a new state.
Dwayne asks Whitley and Ron to come to his parents' house for Christmas dinner. Whitley buys a present she thinks is lovely--but everyone else, including the recipient, Mrs. Wayne, finds it to be hopelessly tacky. Off goes Whitley to try and hunt down something better.
This leaves the young men in the presence of the folks--who have no problem with their guests, except for the way they talk and the way they act; that's not to mention Dwayne's love interest, and the food may not be of much help either...
Ron runs into an obstacle when he turns down a chance to work at the family business. His father takes umbrage and won't let Johnson go along on vacation. Ron has to scramble to win back the man's good graces, for the sake of the trip and more important things as well.
Patti Labelle is excellent in the role of Dwayne's manic mother. We even get treated to a song.
