Dwayne's buddy Zelmer stops by, with news that he'll be heading out pretty soon. All is happy until he reveals his destination: the front lines. His Army Reserve unit has been deployed to the Persian Gulf.
The war throws the difference of opinion in the student body into sharp relief. Some take a strict anti-war view while others claim the war is a necessary evil. Things start off bitter and proceed downhill from there.
Ron decides to give Zelmer a big send-off, but the fling is guys-only. The women won't stand for it, and invite themselves to share in the fanfare. They have fun at Ron's expense, in song.
Freddie is handling the crisis with less aplomb. She is against the war but can't bring herself to talk to Zelmer.
Neither Dwayne nor his friend wanted to see things end this way; still, the young soldier has a job to do.
Zelmer himself struggles with the issue. The steady and sober Col. Taylor provides some advice.
Freddie also prepares to confront the man who is supposed to be her opponent. Not all arguments are that clear-cut, however; the two have more in common than they think.
This is a stirring and poignant episode which shows a sense of humor in the face of hard times. More relevant than ever today.
