Years ago I had an idea for a new series. It would be a western, about a man who had amnesia and would roam the country in search of his identity. In the course of his search he would get into different situations and adventures. And, of course, he would be handy with a gun. That was before I knew that the idea had been tried before, almost exactly as I'd envisioned it, with moderate success with A Man Called Shenandoah, starring Robert Horton (Wagon Train).
I saw an ABC promo for the 1965 fall lineup, and it included Shenandoah. It showed a brief preview of one episode. It's hard to understand why a show like that, especially one that starred a well-known star like Robert Horton, could last only one season. Maybe there were so many westerns that people just couldn't make up their minds which ones were best. It did fairly well in the ratings, in spite of tough competition with The Andy Griffith Show. I'd like to see this series someday.
