A Wayfarer's Journey: Listening to Mahler is a PBS original series that examines the idea of music as therapy. The show is about the composer Gustav Mahler. Throughout the program, the relationship between music and healing is debated and examined. Does music really have therapeutic qualities? The people in the film show the audience how music helps them through everyday life and vehemently argue of its healing power. One of the actors in the film is Christoph Eschenback, who shows viewers how the music of Gustav Mahler helped him get through a painful period in his life and the ramifications of that experience. The message of A Wayfarer's Journey: Listening to Mahler is simple. It is to live in the moment and not always look to the past or future for guidance. The films features students from the Curtis Symphony Orchestra as well as performances by The Philadelphia Orchestra. Other notable actors include Nikolai Schukoff, Richard Dreyfuss, and Kathleen Chalfant.
