Eddie: I mean, what's the point of grieving if there's no one there to see you do it?
Eddie: This is... This is a, sort of... corpse... in an open, oaken, oblong coffin... Silky lining. It's a dead body, Pats. Patsy: Yeah, but is it art, Eddie? Eddie: No, sweetie, it's my father. Patsy: Are you sure? Eddie: Yeah, I think so. But I've just never seen him in a suit before.
Saffy: Grandad has died! Is that all you can do, all you can say? Don't you think Gran needs a little bit more? Gran: Oh, don't drag me into it dear. She's doing her best, I'm sure. Now don't you get yourself into a state. Saffy: Your father is dead. What does that make you feel, mom? (Edina is smiling)...And you can stop smirking!
Edina: My body absorbs mud! Every pore is now an overeater.
Both of the girls falling into the graves wasn't planned until the last moment. The original plan was for just Eddie to fall into her father's coffin, and Patsy fall in with her trying to pull her out.
This episode was supposed to air 4th in the series, but was bumped to 2nd by the BBC when "Hospital" didn't turn in the ratings they were expecting.
Eddie: Life is a mystery, everyone must stand alone. I hear you call my name and it feels like home. This is the opening verse from Madonna's 1989 hit "Like A Prayer". The song was the first single released from the Madonna album of the same name and is best known for its featuring of a gospel choir and for its controversial music video which attracted criticism for its use of Catholic iconography and cross burning imagery.
