  • Exactly Why I Watch this Show!

If anyone wanted to know about this series, I'd describe this episode. It's one of my favorites. Jim promises to Cheryl not to cut loose and reveal his persona as the Green Man but gets drunk and quickly forget his promise. Cheryl tries to stop him and gets in trouble in an incident that could only happen on TV. Jim's Green Man reminds me a lot of the fun-loving, beer-swilling parody of the Hulk that his brother John once played on SNL. He's not dangerous, but maybe a little irresponsible, but a lot of fun. Along the way, Jim dags down Dana's fiancee into the debauchery, adding to the fun and humor. With this kind of balance of humor and acting, it's more than obvious what makes this show such a hit!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Cheryl: You know, I hear a lot of guys are celebrating St. Patrick's Day this year with a quiet dinner at home.
      Jim: Yeah, the nursing home.

  • NOTES (3)

    • ABC repeated this episode on July 11, 2006.

    • In the series, Jim and Cheryl's family name has never been revealed; however, in this episode, the close-captioning for this episode has Jim's Green Man persona speaking from the mirror and saying the name Jim Boyle. Whether this is is the family name is open to interpretation because what is actually heard at that time is the Green Man saying, "Jim, boy...."

    • This episode aired at 8:30 p.m. eastern time.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Jim: (to the church committee) You're out of order! This whole court is out of order!

Jim's outburst references the movie ...And Justice For All, where Arthur Kirkland (Al Pacino) responds to Judge Rayford (Jack Warden) telling him he is out of order with this line. Often misquoted in other such allusions (as it is here), the correct quotation is, in fact, "You're out of order! This whole trial is out of order!"

    • The episode title "The Thin Green Line" is a reference to the movie "The Thin Red Line," and the British comedy series "The Thin Blue Line."
