When Cheryl learns that Dana finally has a job, she declares "our long national nightmare is over". She is quoting Former U.S. President Gerald Ford, who said those words in his first presidential address in 1974 after taking over for Richard Nixon. Ford's "National Nightmare" was the abuse-of-power scandal (dubbed "Watergate") that for two years had hampered the presidency of Richard Nixon and ultimately led to Nixon's resignation from office and Ford's replacing him.
