Ace Of Cakes

I really enjoyed this episode for a number of reasons. I suppose the main one being that we saw how well this group work under pressure. Without being a tyrant, Duff is able to rally his troops to work extraordinarily hard and to near exhastion. They rarely grumble. I'm always amazed at how hard they work, and how much they seem to thrive on it. This week's show had the worst cake wreck Charm City has seen. It was a glorious, great castle cake for a man's birthday. Unfortunately, just as Richard is setting it up, it falls apart. And I mean completely falls apart. He promises another cake by party time, and CCC goes into overdrive to see that it happens. I loved seeing everyone pitch in to help. In the end, a new cake was delivered and the client was ecstatic.



There were a couple of other great cakes this episode. We had the "goth" sixteenth birthday cake. All red and black with skulls. You've gotta love a family that would order a cake like that and then drive to and from North Carolina pick it up and deliver it themselves. We also had one of the familiar "Baltimore" cakes. This one of a famous theater in Baltimore called The Patterson Theater. The decorators seem to love doing these local landmark cakes. The Starbucks cake was fun in an entirely different way. I enjoyed seeing Union Station in DC, where the cake was delivered. These old stations are just a wonder to behold. This cake delivery also introduced us to Willie Goldman, Duff's brother. What a pair they were, delivering that cake to Starbucks. Hilarious brothers. Also, this episode we finally met Adam, the baker. If he's been in previous episodes, I must've missed him. I know I've wondered every prior episode...who BAKES these cakes?? Finally, we got to see him mixing and baking the actually cakes to be decorated. This guy is just not someone to casually mention.....you need the cakes first, before you decorate a thing. Yea, Adam!



I think we were also introduced to one of Duff's "power naps". I doubt this is the last time we'll see one of those! LOL!!!!
