I really enjoyed this episode. Not only were the stories behind the cakes interesting, but the cakes themselves were just a ton of fun to watch being built and decorated. It seems that part of the appeal of this show is the stories behind each cake. I love all the comments that the Charm City staff make about who the cake is for and their impressions of not only the client, but the cake.

This episode we followed Duff, Mary Alice and Geoff to Denver where they were judging a Food Network Challenge for Extreme Cakes. Knowing Duff and Geoff had competed in these challenges not so long ago, and now seeing them as judges was great. Each took their time and really inspected each cake. I had actually watched this challenge on The Food Network, and it was fascinating to see some of the "behind the scenes" moments. Besides, I couldn't resist another chance to see the Psycho Sock Monkey that went on to win! Gotta love a six foot Sock Monkey cake!!!

Meanwhile, back at Charm City. There seems to be a rather "informal" time of arrival and departure of the staff. While Duff, Geoff and Mary Alice are away, we're suspecting the staff are playing just a tad?? However, we see them working away and when Duff anc company return, the work's been accomplished. Geoff (after the judging), still has to work on Max's Bar groom cake. This show always seems to show the staff's love and admiration for all things Baltimore. That's another thing I love about watching Ace of Cakes. They genuinely like where they live, and want to express that with their cakes. The cake turns out spectacularly, and the clients are thrilled. The other cake this time is a groom's cake that took drawings and poems drawn and written by the groom as a young boy, and transfered them to panels on his cake. It was terrific, and had such a whimsical nature to it. The groom thought it was just great, and went on to read the poem aloud to the camera. His bride and his mother, standing right next to him, listened and just beamed.

    What a great episode!moreless
