  • Good mix of stories

Typically up to now A12 has had one big story line and a couple of three little side bits. This one has two different stories worth being the core of an episode, and some extra action as well. One guesses they'd seen a lack of gun play and car chase "action" so we get a dandy little thriller in the middle (although the continuity isn't watching it 3 or 4 times you'll notice they seem to just be going around the same block over and over, you see the same houses, they pass the same cars, there really didn't seem to have been that much effort put into the production, it was cheap, quick and dirty, a little too Jack Webb for my taste)

The story of drugs in college football was very realistic in the idea, how it was portrayed, the trainer who just wants to cover for coaches and doctors who put winning games ahead of the health of the players, a player who's figured the problem and isn't sure how to get the information out, police finally figuring it out. Other parts are really poorly done. A college football team with about 12 guys? And actors who look about 35 years old on a college team? Realism obviously wasn't a big concern in this one, either.

But the best one is the story of the girl and family involved in the underground adoption. Well-written, well-acted, realistic. You see that both sides have made mistakes, both sides have had their desperation exploited by the fraud adoption

There's even a good bit of humor with the schtick about the bet between Reed and Malloy, and Reed taking a free meal to mean all it can.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Harry Rustin, the grizzled trainer of the college football team, is portrayed by Jackie Coogan. Coogan was one of the most popular child actors of his time, discovered by Charlie Chaplin and on stage with his family by the age of four. More than fifty years earlier, he has starred in "The Kid," one of the most popular films of the '20s. And if that's not impressive enough, he also was the hilarious "Uncle Fester" in the Addams Family series. Keep an eye on these A12 episodes, and you'll find a who's who of Hollywood talent in bit roles in these shows.
