I remember watching Adam-12 first on Dragnet and then in their own series. As a kid, I'd watch each episode with excitement and curiosity. How about you?

I can remember watching Adam-12 as a kid, and the one episode that sticks out in my mind as one of the better ones was when Malloy fell asleep at the wheel of his car, and ended up driving it off the side of a small cliff in Griffith Park . . . it took something in the neighborhod of two watch shifts to find him, and it was finally his partner, Reed that did so.

I was always a nut for the cop and medical shows, but "Adam-12" was my all-time favorite. I was not quite 11 years old when it started, and I watched it faithfully each and every week that it was on. I remember being worried that my high school graduation would be scheduled on the same evening as the series finale! Even earlier than that I had remembered seeing Marty Milner in "Route 66" so it was cool seeing him as a cop. I thought Pete and Jim were the best partners ever, with Marty and Kent having such wonderful on screen chemistry that it made the camaraderie between the two patrol officers even more believable. I'll forever and always be a fan of "Adam-12."

As I recall, Pete didn't fall asleep at the wheel, but rather he lost control of the black and white while taking a curve at a high rate of speed while in pursuit of a second suspect.

I remember it a little from it's days on NBC when it aired first-run, and a little more clearly in syndication. I was tempted to buy the first season on DVD, but there were no special features, something I insist on having unless it's sold at a bargain basement price, which it wasn't. If there were, maybe it would have sold better, creating demand for more seasons. It's been a few years now.

The episode you are referring to is from Season 4 called "The Search." Malloy did not fall asleep at the wheel. He was chasing a robbery subject through Griffith Park when he lost control of the squad car and crashed.

I don't remember the episode, but I thought it sounded strange having him fall asleep at the wheel, especially in a series associated with Jack Webb. A police officer doing that would set a poor example, something Malloy wouldn't do.

I think I remember it being on Tuesdays at 8:30. My impression of the show was that Reed and Malloy just spent the half-hour on patrol encountering several minor situations (Malloy being trapped in the squad car in the park being a rare exception). I only recently found out that Stephen Cannell was a writer on the show, and Adam-12 may be the Jack Webb show that's aged the best over the years.
