    Malloy decides to ask the new girl in the steno pool on a date after learning she's Officer Wells' 25-year-old niece. A prowler is reported in a heavily wooded neighborhood. An outstanding warrant for parking tickets could put a flower vendor out of business. A green Corvette is able to evade officers, which turns out to be the worst thing that could have happened to the driver. A gardener at a vacant residence raises suspicion.

    While on duty in a rural area, Reed and Malloy request the assistance of the DEA to build a case against the smug pilot of a light plane they suspect is involved in a drug smuggling operation.

    Malloy and Reed transport an unconscious 8-year-old boy to Rampart General Hospital and help him and his parents cope with the ordeal. Afterwards, they assist a child welfare hotline operator locate a 15-year-old girl who has intentionally overdosed on pills, then race to find the boy they brought in earlier after he escapes from the hospital.

Reed takes a patient approach to apprehend a serial jewelry store thief. An officer finds out the hard way not to trust a "friendly drunk".

    Newly appointed police commissioner Edna Dixon accompanies Malloy and Reed on Night Watch.  An elderly wino strips naked at a bar.  Tensions rise following a gang-related stabbing.  A deaf juvenile steals a car.

An elderly prowler has a sympathetic story. A motorist pulled over for a vehicle violation points out an ironic coincidence. Suspicious activity is reported at a warehouse. The pursuit of an armed robbery suspect ends with a foot chase.

    During a seemingly routine traffic stop, Malloy and Reed are ambushed and kidnapped by two men who are on the run after a foiled robbery attempt. Their only hope is a young woman who is led to believe Malloy and Reed just killed her brother.

    On his way home from the market following shooting re-qualification, Reed shoots a would-be unarmed mugger after his armed accomplice fires a shot and drives off. When the would-be mugger later dies, the license plate number turns out to be invalid, and the only witness swears he heard just one shot, Reed is placed on desk duty and faced with a possible murder charge.

    Malloy wins $10,000 in a contest to name a new woman's shampoo, and Reed is full of ideas on how he should use the money. A woman tries to start a conversation with her neighbor by turning up the volume on her Victrola. A sniper opens fire from the top of a parking garage. A divorced man's few remaining possessions are stolen from his foreclosed home. A wino is murdered in an alley.

    Malloy and Reed are stunned to discover that one of the passengers who led them on a high speed chase is the son of Sgt. MacDonald, and Malloy takes it upon himself to help his boss figure out why the young man is acting out. In the meantime, they investigate a possible burglary in progress at an apartment building, mediate a dispute at a park over an elderly woman feeding ducks, respond to a call of two armed men fighting over a woman, and deal with a wino who is attempting to direct traffic at a busy intersection.
