Malloy recovers from his gunshot wound and returns to patrol with Reed, where they investigate a suspicious burglary call at a recently opened school for women, and confront a pair of armed intruders in a warehouse full of mannequins. Meanwhile, Reed contemplates taking the investigator's exam as he prepares to give a speech in acceptance of the Medal of Valor for saving Malloy's life.

After a well-known hype is released due to a lack of probable cause, Reed decides to temporarily join the narcotics squad to hone his skills. The demands of the assignment quickly take their toll on him personally, and his worst fears are realized when Malloy assists in a narcotics bust.

As Malloy continues his fill in assignment for Sgt. MacDonald, Reed is paired with the department's first female officer, which presents both of them with a series of unique challenges. On patrol, they detain an underage drunk driver with a dismissive mother, search a parking garage for car strippers, and help round up a large group of young people causing trouble outside an amphitheater during a rock concert.

Malloy is asked to fill in for Sgt. MacDonald, leaving Reed to partner with a young probationary officer who lets his judgment be clouded by his constant need to prove himself. On patrol, they search for a purse snatcher inside a church, encounter a burglary in progress at a closed pharmaceutical company, and search for an armed robbery suspect in a lumber yard.

On his way to an auto mechanic after his shift, Malloy is ambushed and kidnapped by a group of drug runners who plan to use him to secure the release of one of their associates.

Malloy and Reed are on the lookout for a travelling business man driving a green Pinto, who called his wife in Nebraska and told her he was going to commit suicide at 2 PM. Meanwhile, they search for a woman who abandoned her newborn baby in a garbage can, and get a tip from an elderly woman about a group of car strippers.

Reed thinks he's got a great deal lined up on a used boat, but Malloy's convinced there's something fishy going on. While on patrol, they search for a man who sold a stolen horse to a riding academy, use an informant's tip to investigate a suspicious restaurant parking lot attendant, and face an accusation of stealing a socialite's diamond ring during a burglary investigation.

Officer Wells appears to have met his match with a new partner who always insists on doing things his own way. Today's shift features a hot-headed husband who's decided he needs a gun to protect his home, a neglected girl who causes a scare while playing with a mannequin, a man who decides to hone his mountain climbing skills on the side of an abandoned building, a pawn shop robber who is chased through a car wash, and a homeowner who gets trigger-happy when he suspects a prowler is in his backyard.

On today's patrol, Malloy and Reed try to corral cattle that are wandering into the downtown area, pull over a speeding bicyclist, chase down a man with a stolen a guitar, and break up a bar fight. After their shift is over, Reed and his wife witness a gas station holdup on their way to dinner with Malloy and his girlfriend.

Officer Woods' new partner is a nervous and quiet recruit, and the embarrassing secret he's trying to keep from his fellow officers might actually imperil them. On today's patrol, a real estate broker's well-meaning but poorly thought out gesture nearly leads to a mob scene, a drug store owner discovers a way to profit from armed robbers, and an armed robbery suspect opens fire during his escape attempt.

Malloy and Reed are left frustrated after investigating the theft of an elderly woman's old television set, but they have hope that a recently passed law might provide her and other victims with compensation. Elsewhere on patrol, they search for an armed robber who shot an over-trusting shopkeeper, and respond to a call of an unusual armed robbery at a drive-in.

Malloy and Reed investigate a large car theft operation that targets older cars, then stages them around the city as abandoned vehicles so they can be towed and scrapped. Meanwhile, they try to figure out why the son of Malloy's girlfriend is getting bad grades, search for a suspect who robbed an elderly woman, and attempt to rescue two foolish teenagers who enter a house that is being fumigated.

While paying a visit to the Laundromat before going into work, Malloy encounters a man using the facilities to dry something much different from clothing. On patrol, he and Reed deal with a minister-in-training who uses a very unorthodox method to get his message across, try to reunite a Finnish-speaking child with her family, mediate a strange dispute between feuding neighbors, and engage in a high speed chase with a well-known drug dealer.

During their Christmas Eve patrol, Malloy and Reed contemplate using their patrol car to deliver a Christmas tree to the residents of a soon-to-be-closed retirement home. Meanwhile, an elderly man's bagpipe playing is considered a public nuisance, a couple of teenagers steal a delivery truck containing radioactive material, a nervous man is desperate to cover up the smell of perfume on his clothing, and an armed robbery suspect becomes intent on committing suicide-by-cop.

After his wife's credit card is turned down attempting to buy a washing machine, an irate Reed begins a long and painful process with his bank to get his credit rating corrected. Out on patrol, he and Malloy investigate a parking lot hit and run accident based on the victim's recollection of the perpetrator's license plate number, search for two runaways who steal camping gear from a store's basement, and make a rare mistake after responding to a liquor store robbery.

While searching for a bald serial rapist, Malloy and Reed have to deal with a similar-looking drunkard engaging in comical antics that Reed doesn't think are all that funny. Meanwhile, they search for a missing wood burning stove containing an Asian family's life savings, and come to the aid of an overweight woman stuck in a phone booth.

Malloy and Reed lead a house-to-house search for a missing six-year-old girl, and what Malloy does after discovering the horrible things that have happened to her could short circuit his career ambitions. Meanwhile, they come to the aid of a man who's gotten stuck in a storm sewer.

Sgt. MacDonald is suffering a marital crisis and turns to Malloy for advice. On today's patrol, a female cashier is taken hostage inside of a grocery store by a couple of trigger-happy robbers who attempt to escape on the roof, and an elderly woman turns up missing from her retirement home.

Malloy tries to find a way to help a 60-year-old career criminal he arrested ten years ago, who was recently released and begs to be re-arrested so he can spend his retirement years in the federal penitentiary. Meanwhile, he and Reed become suspicious while investigating an apparent home burglary, and later respond to a bank robbery in progress.

An anonymous call of shots-fired over the radio leads to an emergency roll-call and frantic search for Motor Officer Grant. Meanwhile, Malloy and Reed respond to a citizen report of an armed robbery in progress at a bar, and Reed goes undercover as a pizza delivery driver to bust a dangerous scam.

As part of a trial program, Malloy and Reed team with Motor Officer Grant to better combat crime. Out on patrol, they make a safety check at a residence, investigate a suspicious witness at the scene of a traffic accident, deal with a young member of a neighborhood watch who seems overanxious to make amends for an embarrassing incident, respond to an annoying complaint about illegally parked cars at a hotdog stand, and perform a daylight stakeout to catch a serial burglar.

Officers Malloy and Woods take a group of children to a youth camp, but Malloy becomes preoccupied with the fourteen-year-old boy he reluctantly brought along, who continues to compensate for his small stature by getting into trouble. Meanwhile, Reed goes on patrol alone, and deals with a woman who uses a unique weapon to fend off an attacker.

Malloy invites a troubled boy along on an upcoming week-long group camping trip in the mountains after apprehending him during a burglary, but soon discovers the kid might be too much for him to handle. Meanwhile, he and Reed engage in a high speed chase with a taxi, investigate a motorcycle versus pedestrian accident in a parking lot, and respond to an armed robbery call.

Abe Strayhorn and his assistants from the Major Fraud and Consumer Protection Division of the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office launch an investigation of a local doctor following the death of one of his patients, who was found wearing a strange belt that the doctor claimed would cure his diabetes.

Malloy and Reed barely get acquainted with their fill-in assignment at LAX when a security camera spots a car being stolen from a parking structure. While on foot-beat as Zebra-12 inside the airport, they find a surprise inside of a stolen suitcase, deal with a man who picks the pocket of a returning soldier, chase down a man buying airline tickets with stolen credit cards, escort a runaway boy back to his mother, and track down a suspect who robbed a parking structure attendant.

Malloy and Reed take flight in separate helicopters to provide assistance in the search of a light plane stolen from the Los Angeles Airport by a distraught man. Afterwards, they search for a group of robbery suspects who flee in separate cars, then Reed discovers a house fire during a nighttime patrol.

As part of a trial program to help ground based officers better understand the abilities and limitations of helicopter assistance, Malloy and Reed are selected to be observers on several Air Support Division missions. This morning's missions include a search for two robbery suspects inside a high rise office building and a search for a suspect who's fled a murder scene.

Reed returns from vacation with a full-body sunburn, making for a miserable work day. Out on patrol, he and Malloy respond to a fiery traffic accident, use an informant's tip to track down a drug dealer working out of abandoned houses, search for an armed robbery suspect based on a vehicle description, and attempt to rescue two boys after their rowboat capsizes.

Malloy and Reed begin today's patrol responding to a call of a drunken woman threatening the patrons of a bar with a handgun. Afterwards, they search for a group of four carjackers who go on a robbery spree after targeting a man with a cache of guns in his trunk, and investigate the suspicious death of a mentally disabled man.
