Why did Perry White never allow Jimmy to call him chief. Lois and Clark always did.

Did Perry White allow Lois and Clark to call him chief? I never noticed.

Yeah, I can clearly recall Clark calling Perry White "Chief" without him blowing up at Clark. I think Lois might have so as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

As for wheelrchair's question, I'm not sure if there's a reason for it within the fictional world of the Daily Planet, but I'm sure the writers of the show used it as vehicle to portray Perry White as a bit of a crusty old newspaper man without having to resort to having Perry doing anything too mean spirited. Yelling at Jimmy for calling him Chief is a relatively begin way of getting that point across,

Hmm, I don't know why he only yelled at Jimmy about it. Maybe it wasn't something they ever really thought of; it just turned out that way.

John Hamilton, like Jack Larson (see the forum I started on him) was perfect for his role. He was crusty, but in a way that was lovable, not mean.
