    • Perry: Are you inferring Kent can do anything I can't do?
Jimmy: Golly no, Mr. White. It's only that Miss Lane's in there with that nut and sometimes Mr. Kent can get in touch with Superman.
Perry: Are you inferring Superman can do something I can't do?
Jimmy: Well, I guess maybe you're gonna fire me, Chief, but let's face it, the answer is yes.
Perry: Guess you're right, let's go.

  • Allusions

    • "Beat-A-Million" Gates

The character here of "Bet-A-Million" Butler is loosely inspired by John W. Gates (1855-1911), a financial speculator and gambler who gained the nickname "Bet-A-Million" Gates for reputedly wagering that sum on a horse race once. (Another such tale of him betting on which raindrop would reach the sill of a window first is used as the backstory of the gambler character "Sky" Masterson in the musical Guys And Dolls.)
