Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Buzzwang accompanies Goose and Niko on their mission.

    • The space whales seem to come in several varieties, like Earth whales. In the teaser the whales appear like the toothed sperm whales, and when the Millville attacks a herd they look like baleen whales, such as blue whales or humpback whales.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Buzzwang: (as Moby swallows the shuttle) Wow, bummer, man.

    • Cmdr Walsh: Welcome, Mr Martin. Now then, we'd like to hear what you have to say.
Martin: Just this: humanity has this terrible habit of destroying any environment it enters. And 'SpacePeace' won't let it muck up space, too. You know?
Goose: We're just as dedicated to the preservation of life. All life!
Martin: You know that Tetragram has got some lunatic catching all the whales, right?
Cmdr Walsh: We're monitoring the situation.
Martin: Cop out! It has to be stopped!
Q-Ball: I dislike the insinuation that Beta is lax in its duties.
Martin: If you aren't going to do anything, man, we will!

    • Mr Bigelow: Leapin' lasers, Walsh, what are your people doin' 'bout these vicious monster attacks?! We've been shut down for days, and we haven't received a quark of help from Beta!
Cmdr Walsh: Mr Bigelow, our people are still studying the data.
Mr Bigelow: Data, schmata! These things are eating away at my profit margin!
Cmdr Walsh: Sir, Beta is in the business of preserving life, not destroying it.

  • NOTES (0)

    • Spacepeace:

The organization Spacepeace is an updated version of the group Greenpeace which is pledged to defend the biodiversity of life on Earth. They're most famously known for defending whales from whalers by putting themselves in between the ships and their prey, though they take on causes of many sorts, from protesting nuclear weapons testing, preventing the overfishing the world's oceans, and fighting to keep ancient forests from being cut down.

    • Mr Bigelow: Leapin' lasers, Walsh...

Though Bigelow looks more like Daddy Warbucks, the phrase "Leapin' lizards" is the standard exclamation used by Annie in the Little Orphan Annie comic strip which ran from 1924 until 2010.

    • Title
The episode's title, "Space Moby", is a tribute to the classic Herman Melville novel Moby Dick, which tells the story of a whaler obsessed with killing a fearsome white whale.
