Cybele Forest Lodge: The Saxon Lodge
Cybele is spared the sweltering summer heat ofthe South African lowveld but there is still an air of subtropical lushness about the plants, indigenous trees and shrubs. It is a fascinating part of South Africa close to the exquisite Mac-Mac and other falls as well as Pilgrim's Rest, one of the historic old towns in the vicinity. At Cybele Forest Lodge, you leave your heart behind, so you have to come back to retrieve it again and again. At the Saxon, Here South Africa?s beloved first president, Nelson Mandela, or Madiba as he is lovingly known by his people, wrote his moving and compelling autobiography "A Long Walk to Freedom." Many aspects of Madiba's life are captured here. There's an inspiring set of artworks on display that pays tribute to the man from his early days as a political outcast, his capture and incarceration to his inauguration as President.
