The use of the character name "Inspector Neele", with its most unusual spelling of the surname, is worth noting. "Neele" was the pseudonym employed by Agatha Christie during her ten-day disappearance in 1926 (she was found staying at a Yorkshire hotel under this name). Significantly, it was also the surname of the woman named by her as co-respondent in her divorce from her first husband. Christie's disappearance in 1926 is usually said to have been occasioned by this marital break-up.
