A wealthy and unpopular woman dies in mysterious circumstances, locked in her room, and a geranium on her wallpaper has turned blue. It appears that she had been warned of the circumstances leading to her demise by a fortune-teller. Miss Marple asks her old friend, Sir Henry Clithering, to help her investigate the case ahead of a court hearing.

This episode is adapted from the short story, "The Blue Geranium", first published in The Christmas Storyteller dated December 1929, and collected in Agatha Christie's The Thirteen Problems (1932).
Not only is this the first time a Miss Marple short story has been adapted for the series, it is also the first time a Miss Marple short story has been adapted for television. If this proves successful, there will still be plenty of canon Marple stories to choose from (to date only one novel remains to be adapted) - as Agatha Christie wrote twenty short stories featuring Miss Marple.
