  • Murder and deception on the Devon coast

Miss Marple is painlessly inserted into a plot that originally featured Agatha Christie's Superintendent Battle. In a typical Christie situation, a group of people gather together at the old house on the cliffs. Two of them will be murdered before a web of lies and deception are untangled by Miss Marple. Geraldine McEwan as Marple is brilliant in her usual low-key way, and Tom Baker has a flamboyant cameo as a retired lawyer who knows too much and isn't reticent about saying so. Alan Davies is the detective on the case who reluctantly accepts help from Miss Marple. And Julie Graham as the demure Mary is certainly a change of pace -- her television roles usually involve lots of nudity and enthusiastic sex.

Agatha Christie purists may mutter in their beards, but this is an enjoyable outing for the whodunit fans.
