For those of you who used to know me on this site before I left, I just want you to know that I'm not coming back for good. I just had to post this topic so I could get more signatures on the petition. Anyway, on to the matter at hand.

On my Poirot website (www.freewebs.com/poirot) I recently received this guestbook entry:
    "HELP!
Some news direct from UK ,
Poirot is finished, there is no intention of making any more in the
current series or continuing with another series. The main sponsor
A&E (USA) have pulled out of investing in UK based films. The other
company involved , PBS do not have the resources to fund the
    episodes.
Granada Television who is the UK channel which Poirot goes out on are
making four "Miss Marples" instead as these are much cheaper.
There are still 12 episodes of "Poirot" not yet filmed,
    including "Orient Express"!!!!
PLEASE JOIN US AND SIGN TNE PETITION !!!!
    http://www.petitiononline.com/Poirot06/petition.html
thanks, merci d'avance as poirot would say"

I doubted its truthfulness, but I asked the Moderator at the Official Agatha Christie site and he asked Chorion (the company that owns the Christie estate). Here is their response:
"The producers and David would like to continue the series but it is a very difficult TV environment at the moment. Any help and support that you can give to help us in our endeavours will be much appreciated."

So it's true - unless we fans do something about it, David Suchet will never finish the canon. Please sign the petition. Here's the link one more time:

    Thanks!

I'm sure that anyone who has any sense will sign the petition! I have! What a shame it would be for Poirot to finish!

I could scarcely believe it when I saw this topic's headline or whichever way it is you're supposed to say it. Dumbfounded!

So I had to read it. And the fact that the Christie Estate confirms it makes it pretty much a certainty. Of course I'll sign the petition. I'm only sorry Granada seems (just my opinion) to have their priorities wrong. Yes, Miss Marple is surely much cheaper for them to make. One can see it. BBC has covered that. Better (again, mho). How about sponsorship? How about the fact that decades from now Poirot will still be hugely profitable for them worldwide. Maybe some countries outside the anglophile sphere should pitch in.

OK, done here. Going to see if I can drum up some local support for the petition. Still in a stupor of disbelief, though.

Never has anyone played any character better than David Suchet plays Poirot. Granada TV - you must complete this series. No - please complete ... With simply words - You MUST complete series. We want David Suchet for all the Hercule Poirot TV Series! I never seen a better actor than David Suchet in this role. How they can imagine to stop filming now? I support this petition all the way and pleading fans all over the world to unite and save our hero. Agatha Christie's works deserve it. We must do it for her amazing books. Fans - go on other sites and similar forums and promote this petition link. Let's save Poirot all together !!! All for Poirot and Poirot for us - his series will be for us... Keep it smile my friend Hercule - everything will be OK. Stop filming such wonderful series couldn't be true...

With only 53 posts on the Poirot thread, there is hardly enough people to really change the minds over at A&E or whoever holds the purse strings to relent and bring back the show. Unfortunately, it's all about money, and if the shows do not bring in the ratings and the dough it's all over. It sucks for us, unfortunately that's the way it goes. Am I still rhyming here? I hate it when I do that...

I noticed that people generally don't like registers, live theirs e-mails in public, participate at sites like this... etc. They prefered to be "Guests" at similar forums with no obligations. Maybe this is reason. Look at petiton online. It has almost 2400 votes for him at this moment!!!

Well it looks like Poirot has not been canceled after all, 4 more are scheduled for 2007.

Believe it or not, David's (Hercule Poirot) voice can be heard in the animation; "FLUSHED AWAY" He lends his voice to Rita's father.

I can confirm that there will be 4 new episodes of Poirot made. In an interview to do with him playing Maxwell on BBC One, he said this himself.

It's about time. A&E hasn't been showing it lately, well at least not on dishnet-work.

Happy news, but which four, I wonder? Dare we hope for continuity?
