Gudgeon, the Butler: (to other servants) If you should see me with a pistol in my hand, the proper thing to do is to approach me and ask for an explanation.
Lady Angkatell: Say what you will, but murder is a very awkward thing. It upsets the servants so!
Henrietta Savernake: What happens if you meet a criminal who's cleverer than you are yourself? Poirot: This is not the highest probability, mademoiselle.
Lady Angkatell: Talk of Baghdad, they were - Monsieur Poirot and his little green cells. Poirot: Grey, madame.
Angela Curran (Frances Simms) is not listed in the end credits of the programme as broadcast by ITV.
This episode is based on Agatha Christie's thriller The Hollow (1946). Her play, also called The Hollow, opened in 1951 with Poirot himself cut out of the story.
The fictional house called The Hollow was modelled on that of the actor Francis L. Sullivan and his wife, to whom Agatha Christie dedicated her book: "For Larry and Danae, with apologies for using their swimming pool as the scene of a murder."
A DVD of The Hollow was released in February, 2004.
The Hollow is also known as Murder after Hours.
Lady Angkatell: (about Poirot) He was in Baghdad when Henry was high commissioner. This is a reference to Murder in Mesopotamia.
