Do not go out of the room during The Mystery of the Spanish Chest - you may miss the remarkable sight of Poirot dancing the Charleston!
Colonel Curtiss: I think it's a godsend. I mean, you're a detective. Poirot: I am the detective, Colonel Curtiss.
Poirot: I am learning, Hastings. It is more English, yes, the humbleness? I am learning. I will be the most humble person in the world. No one shall match Hercule Poirot for his humbility.
Japp: I don't know why I bother, sometimes. I might as well stay at home and do my gardening. All right, who do you want me to arrest now?
Poirot: Two things, Colonel Curtiss. First, I am not a bloody little frog. I am a bloody little Belgian!
Hercule Poirot: I admit it. I am the best. I am Hercule Poirot.
This episode is based on Agatha Christie's short story The Mystery of the Spanish Chest. This was expanded in the 1950s from an earlier and shorter story called The Mystery of the Baghdad Chest, which was first published in The Sketch magazine in January, 1932. It was later included in the collection The Regatta Mystery and Other Stories (1939).
