    A top-secret division of the CIA known as 'The Firm' has built a hi-tech, weapons-laden new helicopter called 'Airwolf', but after the chopper's test flight, the craft's twisted creator, Dr. Moffet, turns the lethal firepower onto the flight tower, before taking off in the chopper with his two co-pilots to Libya. Archangel, the head of the division who built Airwolf, is badly wounded in the assault but not out of the game, and calls upon ace combat pilot Stringfellow Hawke to take the task of bringing back Airwolf from Libya, where Moffet is using it to destroy for his own sadistic pleasure.

Months later, he awakens from a coma in hospital, only to be told that Dominic and Archangel were killed in a daring mission to rescue St. John from a prison camp – but St. John is now a free man, alive and well. But nothing is as it seems, and behind it all are some foreign agents in a complex plan to get their hands on Airwolf.

Hawke agrees to let Archangel fly as Airwolf's co-pilot as they set out to rescue Dominic, but Airwolf's tail-rotor is badly damaged as they fly helplessly into a trap where Dominic is the bait...

But Hawke discovers the potential traitor to be an old Vietnam comrade, who is prepared to do anything, even commit treason, to buy the freedom of his son, who after living on the streets of Vietnam, is being held as a bargaining piece by the Russians. That fact that the man's wife was once Hawke's lover before they became separated in Saigon does not exactly help matters...

    Dominic is delivering $2m to buy the freedom of some prisoners that have been held for 20 years by a corrupt Cuban Colonel, with money raised by some Cuban exiles who now live in Florida, but just as he is delivering the money, it is grabbed by some mercenaries who appear out of nowhere and promptly vanish again. With Dominic's damaged helicopter forced to set down, one of the Firm's listening posts picks up Dominic's distress call, and after Archangel alerts him, Hawke sets off to help his friend. The exiles blame Dominic for the loss of the money, and as Hawke helps him prove his innocence, they find themselves discovering a mercenary group funded by none other than the Firm, who are in league with the corrupt Colonel...

    Santini Air is hired by a film company to perform a dare-devil helicopter stunt of a gold bullion robbery for an upcoming movie, but Dominic and Hawke fall out when Hawke, concerned for his friend's safety, doesn't want him to perform the dangerous stunt. Hawke asks Archangel to pull some strings to prevent Dominic from flying the stunt, but in doing so, Archangel discovers that the stunt is in fact a cover for a real gold bullion robbery arranged by an infamous master criminal, and asks Hawke to fly the stunt himself in order to thwart the robbery.

    Archangel asks Hawke to fly Airwolf into Russia to bring out a double agent who once saved his life, who is now in possession of a deadly toxin developed by Russian scientists. The already risky mission is complicated further by the fact that Hawke and Santini must not only bring back the double agent, but his family, which will total five passengers on-board Airwolf – and the only way to compensate for the extra weight is to strip The Lady of her armament, leaving Hawke and Santini flying into Russian territory unarmed...
