  • Good acting undermined by weak plot

This episode features one of my favorite performances in the series. Chill Wills is spot on as Mr. Kilmer, an old cowhand who entertains with his accounts of the West in the early 20th century. Unfortunately, Wills's acting does not save the episode from its lame plot twist. The little boy can't sit still or keep his mouth shut for 5 seconds, yet he manages to keep quiet about the man dying outside the train just so he can earn $1 from his dad? A dollar wasn't that much money even back in 1958. Absurd. At least they didn't go the even lamer route of Mr. Kilmer being the escaped mental patient.
