Episode Recap

Lucia is a woman whom the audience sees only tossing and turning in her bed. She is struggling to remember what has happened to her. As she goes in and out of consiousness, Lucia recalls the events that changed her life. She had met and fallen in love with a man named Allen Bliss at a party that was to be a celebration of her engagement to another man: John St. Rogers. After dancing and having a romantic conversation with Allen, she had realized that it was love at first sight for her - until she discovered that Allen was married. Despite his marital status, Lucia had decided to break the engagement.

Drifting in and out of memory, Lucia struggles to remember more. She recalls how the two had remained friends, despite Allen's marriage, and later, he determined to leave his wife for her. While out sailing, they had discussed their future, and had decided to travel to the Orient together. All at once, a fog had come upon them, and as the foghorn sounded, they realized that they were in the way of a large ship.

Lucia wakes, screaming Allen's name. A woman enters the room, dressed in nun's attire. The woman promises to get the doctor. In the meantime, Lucia raises her hands to her eyes to look at the ring that Allen had given her that fateful day - a Chinese wishing ring, that one was to rub and the wish would come true. Lucia is horrified to see that her hands are that of an old woman's. As the nurse returns with the doctor, they discuss how the accident was fifty years ago and yet, sometimes patients recover memory and lucidity just before death. As they return to the room, Lucia, now a very old woman, is slumped over dead on the floor.
