  • A condensed version of the plot of the 1950 film, "So Long At The Fair", an account of a famous rumour which also inspired the story of Hitchcock's own film, "The Lady Vanishes".

Did this story ever really take place? It is a popular urban legend, and it certainly has a kind of horrid plausibility. Here, Hitchcock's own daughter, Patricia, takes the first of some ten roles she would have during the run of this series as a young tourist in the Paris of 1889, hoping to visit the "Grande Exposition" with her widowed mother. The mother disappears; the authorities cannot allow any rumours of a plague outbreak in the city, for that would mean the departure of all those tourists needed to make the colossally expensive exhibition a success. This was a minor but very efficient re-telling of the famous story, less gripping than the two earlier movies, but nicely acted and fast-paced.
