Iris Teleton is confronted by her husband's lover, Blanche Herbert, at a hotel lounge. Blanche asks that Iris give her husband a divorce. When Iris refuses, Blanche shows her a letter that proves that she was also cheating on her husband since they were married. Iris tells Blanche to give her 24 hours to think it over. Iris tries one last ditch effort to get her husband to go away with her, but he deflects it. So Iris cuts a button from his overcoat, meets Blanche at her apartment, and kills her. She takes the incriminating letter and leaves one of her husband's buttons in Blanche's hand.
Intending to frame her husband further, Iris sneaks into his office. She plants the murder weapon. As she does so, she overhears her husband talking with someone. It is a private detective who has witnessed Iris going to Blanche's apartment. Iris is stunned to overhear that her husband has the original copy of the letter for which she so badly wanted back. As she sits there, shocked, Iris is further undone when the "detective" is told by her husband that he loves her, and waltzes out of his office - a much younger, more attractive woman than Blanche or her.
