  • When Eldon Marsh is humilated by his wife's all-too-obvious infidelity, he takes a drastic revenge on her lover.

Martin Balsam is cast as a worm who turns, and in an unexpected and extreme way, in this episode. His character is a quiet, put-upon man not fond of his job or his colleagues and "friends", and stuck, also, in a fairly horrid bourgeois marriage. Life conspires against him, it seems, but he believes in his ability to find an "equalizer", something that will balance the scales. When an aggressive, macho type steals his wife - in a way calculated to cause, not just distress, but obvious humiliation - the "equalizer" he finds is nastier than anyone expects. Balsam's understated performance as a man with only one thing left to lose holds the show together.moreless
