Michael Arlen's famous story, concerning an American in England who, for a dare, stays overnight in an allegedly haunted house and is driven permanently mad by the experience, is not done as vividly as it might have been. The plot still works, but some rather more charismatic actors (and a slightly longer running time?) might have made it memorable. Also, American TV, in the days of heavy censorship, seems not to have wanted to make the story quite as nasty as it undoubtedly is. Still, the denouement - where we eventually realise that the private house in which the story is related is actually a lunatic asylum - is quite powerful.
