Episode Recap

Oliver Matthews is a has-been actor who is worshipped and essentially stalked by his adoring secretary, Miss Hall. Oliver is bitter because of his former glory and present bit parts, and his vanity makes the fact that he is aging even worse. Meanwhile, Miss Hall thinks that everything he does is wonderful, but he rebukes and rebuffs her, even to the point of insulting her. Like a faithful dog, she scurries around him, despite the blows.

When Oliver tells her he is going to Mexico on vacation, she offers to drive him to the airport, but he declines. Instead, he goes to his own home. While he is there, he is confronted by Grace Dolan, a woman who works at the studio and who has been blackmailing him. Grace's daughter dated Oliver and took her own life when the affair ended. Grace has all the letters that Oliver wrote to her daughter and has been threatening to go to the tabloids if Oliver doesn't pay. Since he can no longer afford the payments, he kills her and dumps her body in a lake. He goes home to find his secretary waiting there. She witnessed the murder, but says she will not go to the police if he marries her.

The final scene depicts what Oliver had told her was an "impossible dream": the two of them sitting together in a theatre, watching his latest picture - married.
