Robert H. Harris was one of the actors who kept on turning up on this series - every season seemed to find a part for him. He was usually cast as fussy little fellows with a streak of obsessiveness which could turn nasty. Here, as the antiques dealer Mr. Appleby, he just wants to be surrounded by beautiful things, and he gets very annoyed when other people intrude upon his world with such trivial things as demands for money. Marriage seems to suggest a way out of Mr. Appleby's financial problems, but this, too, isn't the orderly business he wants it to be. Harris was an excellent actor, and conveys most amusingly the rage of an aesthete who would rather avoid the sordid world we all live in.
