Alias

It's a solid, if somewhat disappointing episode coming off of the ever so brilliant 'Full Disclosure'.



While Syd and Vaughn's storyline was meant to be the main catch, I found Jack's adventures with Katya far more compelling. This, of course, SHOULD have been the episode to reintroduce Irina, but due to whatever reasons Lena had, she did not have the time to commit to Alias' 3rd season.



It could have been all kinds of disastrous, but instead the writers take the opportunity to flesh out the Derevko family. And who better to play Lena's sister than Isabella Rossellini? She was a real treat to watch and her chop-stick scene was gloriously brutal, even Jack was stunned by it.



On the whole, I found the episode a tad too standard, but it does have some great moments (loved the bit where Syd threatens Sark's johnson with a knife, I also seriously was gobsmacked, as I'm sure Jack was, when Katya planted one on him). Lauren now how a new eveel look whenever the covenant is mentioned, how come we never got one before this? I guess it'd be too obvious, or else rumours were true and the writers were forced to play this end at the mercy of the fans dislike towards her character.

Jack:"Thank you for helping Sydney."

Katya:"Isn't that what family's for?"



I'll start with what I didn't like in this episode.So..first,I think the method of beginning the episode with a climax and then suddenly going 3 days back is getting a bit overused to say the least.Besides,in this specific occasion,I think it was pointless cause we all know Syd and Vaughn are not going to die.(I have to admit though that the opening scene in which they're kissing each other,the ensuing scene where they look at each other as they're about to die and the one near the end of the episode where they're saved were very masterfully shooted).Secondly,who could survive an airplane crash?only an Alias character of course or Xena.Finally,finding an abandoned car in the middle of nowhere is one thing.Being able to start it up without any tool is another.



Now that I'm done with the "bad" things I'll go to the "good" ones.We had Syd and Vaughn smoochies here and the two kissed each other before being led to the firing party,which means a lot.They were about to die so they expressed their true feelings about each other.Does this episode mark their reunion?well..I'm not sure..especially if you take into account that after their return,Vaughn immidiately rushed to Lauren acting like a total jerk.But this is so like him.He's not the kind of guy who will cheat on his girlfriend.But here..here we're talking about his true love and no matter how much he tries to stay away from Syd,sooner or later,he will be with her again.Now that Lauren has been unveiled as a Covenant agent,there's a good possibility they could get back together,if she gets out of the way.



Talking about Lauren,I don't know why,but I have mixed feelings for her.I mean I hate her for being a pain in the ass to Vaughn and Syd and for showing no hesitation in killing her husband,but on the other hand,I think that while she was a somewhat weak character before,now she has much more to do and she will be a lot more interesting.I'm curious about the way Jack is going to treat Vaughn as soon as he finds out the truth about Lauren.



The most interesting character here is Katya(or Yekaterina) and the most funny couple to watch is her and Jack,not Vaughn and Syd.The scenes between the two of them work perfectly and they're very entertaining.The dialogue is witty and equally entertaining.The highlight of the episode is definitely the kisses they share.I think it's time Jack moved on with his life and found a new flirt.Anyway..Isabella Rossellini is excellent as Katya and makes a great Derevko sister.She's very enigmatic.And she said Irina's actions would be revealed some day.So,Irina's still in the play,eh?

--The special effects with the airplane were amazing as always..



--Sark(David Anders) is actually American.When he talks as agent Holier you can notice some british accent as he tries to speak with an american one.It's good they pay attention to such small details.



--Sloane knows Katya(I suppose Yelena,too),while Jack didn't know about their existence,at least not until he made his own investigation into Irina.And Sloane didn't tell Jack.Interesting.



--Liked Syd's punch on Leonid.This guy is such a toady!

--no aliases,no disguises,no gadgets



this was a filler,but a good one.

I liked the long awaited return of the beginning dramatic moment followed by the "X Hours Earlier" storyline that I have grown to miss since we last saw it at the beginning of this season. I thought this episode was good, but it kind of got away from the main point of the season in the destruction of the Covenant. I shouldnt really say that the episode dragged away form the main storyline too much, the man that Sydney and Vaughn were supposed to meet was / is going to help them in trying to bring down the Covenant but in the end it felt like a very filler type of episode after such a blockbuster in the previous episode.



Laurens days running around the CIA are numbered and I just wonder when she will be made and her relationship with Vaughn destructs right along with it. Overall, average Alias episode. Nothing amazing.

All in all this episode was pretty decent, but mediocre for Alias in general. Mainly it was to get Vaughn and Sydney in a position where they would be able to lock lips and tell each other about their undying desire to make babies.



This time their plane goes down when the pilots die thanks to some sniper guy shooting them with poison that doesn't take effect until they happen to be over North Korea. Vaughn, meanwhile, tries to be as mean as he can to Sydney because of the conversation he had with Jack last episode.



Anyway, the plane goes down, Syd and Vaughn miraculously survive, only to eventually be caught by those darn evil Communists. Jack goes to Irina for help and gets her sister instead (only because the actress who plays Irina wouldn't sign on for the season), and someone is sent in to save them. In return, the sis wants Sloane to be assassinated. Jack is about to comply but she calls Sloane to warn him and then calls Jack to call him off, seriously crippling Sloane's trust in Jack.



In Korea, Vaughn and Sydney talk lovey dovey and make out before getting pulled out to be shot. One of the guards is actually the person sent to save them and shoots the rest of the guards and they haul butt outta there.



Back at home, Vaughn, total jackass, ignores Sydney to go spoon Lauren, who we know now is a complete fake. Jack meets with Irina's sister who makes out with him (EEWWW, I wouldn't let someone that ugly kiss me) and she walks off, cryptically telling him Irina's plans will be made known soon.
