I am likely one of the few people that thought the ending was kind of dumb and unorignal. Theres another person in the world with A. Sloane and he just happens to be catching the attention of everyone else in the world who hates ANOTHER A. Sloane. Interesting. Seriosuly, the ending was built up to be this big shocker, but I dont buy any of it. Clearly the matter involving our Arvin Sloane will be resolved soon, when there will be revealed that there is an imposter name who is behind the cause of all this. The man look a lot like Arvin, so I wouldnt be shocked if the producers tried to pass him off as someone releated to Arvin. I thought the use of the "X Hours Earlier" was really weak this time around. Vaughn shoots Dixon, but once we get to that point in the timeline nothing else big happens. Why ruin the surprise at the beginning if you dont expand once you get there. Good examples of earlier ones would be something happening but then when we get to that point something or someone interfers. This time around it was the same thing and it took away from the story. I dont know - I just didnt like it.
This episode, one would think from the beginning is just like many of the others, you have Katya Derevko back, nothing new there, but nice to see Isabella. The story then goes deeper into the why's and how's of Irinas betrayal. Then comes the conclusion of the episode, ah... A. Sloane behind it all again, how predictable, yet still rather exciting, But no, Alias does'nt stop there, the end shows a rather big bombshell of.. wait for it... ANOTHER MR. SLOANE?! Woah scriptwriters, whats going on here... Cut to cliffhanger, not any cliff hanger, but an Alias cliffhanger, expertly done and mastered throughout the entire series.
Excellent - continues various threads from both Season 3 and 4 and ties up a lot of loose ends. Also sets up the next few episodes nicely! Great stuff!
Yes, just like opening Pandora’s box – Vaughn goes in search of his father. But when he is faced with the fact that his father may have abandoned him and his mother – he would rather believe that his father is dead. But is that the truth? Like many things on Alias – things are not always what they seem. Katya finally returns – and reassures the audience that she was not going to kill Sydney in 3x22 Resurrection (one of the most contrived episodes of Alias ever). More double-crosses are revealed when it turns out that Irina Derevko never plotted to have Sydney assassinated – she was set up! Furthermore, the man behind the information provided to Vaughn about his father is revealed. And the men are the one and the same – Arvin Sloane. Yet, the final twist of the episode, it is really Another Mister Sloane (also the episode title for the next episode!).
Another stock standard Alias encounter – showing that sprawling season arcs is what Alias does best!
Sydney/Vaughn
Did anyone else cheer when Vaughn shook of that other woman and remained faithful to Sydney – go him! Liked the interactions once more – and good to see they’re still on strong footing.
Sloane/Nadia
Loved the parallels between Sloane and Nadia and Irina and Nadia. At first we think Sloane is the good guy, and Irina the baddie, then Irina is the goodie and then Sloane the baddie – then Sloane is revealed to be another Sloane (although I think Sloane might have something to do with it anyway!). I also liked Sydney telling Katya that Nadia must never know.
Picking up the pieces
Yes, Katya returned! Finally we get SOME explanation for her actions in the terrible Resurrection – however we STILL don’t know why she was affiliated with the Covenant – and what she knew about Lauren – why hasn’t Sydney asked this??!! The story line about Vaughn’s father continued – and Marshall addressed Jack’s health problems (in the form of one pesky mutation). Oh, and Sydney’s mother, Irina, true intentions were revealed (Thank you – somebody finally loves their daughter!!!!).
Ultra-cools
(1) The team the Vaughn was provided – was it just me – or did you want them to stick around for a while?
(2) Sloane looking like he’d betrayed everyone – then the final revelation that he hadn’t
(3) The fact that the other Sloane looked INCREDIBLY similar to the real Sloane
(4) The return of Katya!!!!
(5) More mention and coverage of Irina (and that she really didn’t want her daughter dead – like “duh” I could have told you that.
All in all another stellar episode – and I look forward to the continuation of all three threads (Irina/Katya/Elaina Derevko, Bill Vaughn, and Another Mister Sloane). It looks like Alias is back on track!
