  • Alias at its best! An unforgettable episode.

    10
    "Perfect"
'Phase One' is one of those unforgettable episodes of a TV show. In its 45 minutes or so we get Alias at its best with everything it's famous and loved for. From the first scene at the airplane to Sark's phone call to Sloane, it's impossible not to adore this episode, which brings big changes to the show, with the end of SD-6 and the beginning of Syd and Vaughn's relationship.

Everything works here, from the acting to the writing to Sydney's hair and if you see it once, you will want to see it again. After one and a half years of waiting, Sydney finally finds a way to destroy SD-6 and the other SD cells around the world in a magnificent way. I'm afraid I'm repeating myself but after Phase One, Alias becomes a totally different show (although we still get plenty of wigs!)

This is an episode that you need to watch to understand, and I assure you that you won't be disappointed. Definitely a favorite that made me jump from the couch and say: I love Alias! Yeah, I didn't jump from the couch.

AAAHHHHHH!!!!!!! Uf...

PD: Dixon se entera de la verdad.
  • Syd:"What was wrong with the black one?Do you think it's comfortable wearing clothes like this!?"

    Oh...my...God...

Where to start...Syd in lingerie? The plane going down?Geiger finding the email that outs Jack and Syd?Dixon's life crashing down around his ears?Jack being tortured?SD-6 been stormed?Syd and Vaughn kissing? Will and Francie kissing? The revelation that this was what Sloane planned? That there's a Phase Two?Or the last shot, with Francie as dead as can be?

Phase one is the most jaw-dropping hour of television I have ever seen. This episode is both an end to the series and a new pilot. It takes everything we've come to know about the show's main theme-the destruction of the Alliance-and turns it on it's head, creating an entirely new series by the end of it.I have to give some credit to all the producers and writers.Seriously, what other series would have the nerve to build up to something for a season and a half and then end it?

I'm still trying to let this sink into my mind.A single episode containing the demise of SD-6,the end of Dixon's obliviousness to what Syd has been doing,a long-awaited kiss between Syd and Vaughn(and two other people who are far more surprising)and the death of a major character is the stuff of series finales, not midseason's episodes. And yet,by the end of "Phase One",I was on the edge of my seat, left with a huge cliffhanger.WOW...

Ok,let's start with,in my opinion, the most amazing part of the episode, except for the raid on SD-6:the plane...It started with Syd opening a door, wearing the most sexy disguise to date. Then followed a cool fight and the destruction of the plane with some very special effects.Seriously, how much do they spent to make these gorgeous scenes? And how did they actually manage to do it?I don't have any words to describe it..

Now,let's talk about the "Phase Two" subplot and the murder of Francie.Sloane was as always behind all these.I think that I'll never form a permanent opinion about this person.A few episodes ago he betrayed his friend, but then he helped him to escape.I was starting to like him,but then we learned that he helped Jack for his own advantage. Now,we learn that he knew for quite some time of Syd and Jack being double agents and that he was manipulating them all this time.By the way,did you see that creepy smile on his face when he learned of the destruction of the Alliance? What a j***.Anyway,I'll never forgive him for what he has done, especially to Syd.This is the second time he kills a loved one of hers. This was Francie's turn.I fell very sad with their decision to kill this character off. Now,we won't have this contrast between Syd's personal and spy life. But what I fear most is Francie's double.Actually,at first with the shot with her taking orders from Sark I thought that the writers had gone a twist too far and she had been a double agent all along and that the dead body was Will.It was very beautifully composed.

    Miscellaneous:

--At last, the first kiss between Syd and Vaughn. They're finally together!!!

--The torture scene with Jack was awesome.

--Number 47:47 is the secret server of the Alliance and it is on a 747.

--This episode originally aired immediately after Super Bowl XXXVII,which would explain the sexed-up bikini shots in the opening sequence.

    **Highlight**

As I mentioned before,Geiger torturing Jack is particularly harrowing and excellent. --Rutger Hauer, who plays Anthony Geiger,is best known as the replicant Roy Batty in Blade Runner, the 1982 Ridley Scott film starring Harrison Ford.Hauer is outstanding in the movie and showed real promise, but after starring in the 1985 film Ladyhawke,he seemed resigned to taking B-movie roles. He has since appeared in several fantasy,science-fiction and horror films and has played many vampires(including Lothos in the series Buffy the vampire slayer). His last major role was in the 2002 George Clooney film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

    --Weiss:"What's this the flirting corner?"

    --Weiss:There's a meeting.National Security?Remember that?It's important for the meeting!

--Geiger:"You were engaged?Well, tell me something more.

--Syd:I assume you mean how Danny died.

--Vaughn to Weiss:"That's son of a **** swear I'm gonna kill this guy.

--Will to Syd:"You know the weird part? The really weird part? It's not weird.

--Lena Olin wasn't in this episode.

--Jennifer Garner and Carl Lumbly did some excellent acting here.

--This episode's injuries:Jack's drugged and tortured by Geiger, who subjects him to electric shocks in the "conversation room".

    --This episode's locations:Over the Atlantic

--This episode's aliases:OMG...Syd posing as a call girl

--This episode's very very hot look:Syd emerges for Macor wearing black bra and briefs, suspender belt and stockings, carrying a riding crop. Then she emerges again in red bra and briefs, with a matching split baby doll. She quickly puts on a flight suit. For the attack on SD-6 she wears full combat gear, quickly losing the balaclava the others wear.

--This episode's gadgets:Syd has a Personal Digital Assistant(PDA) that can connect Server 47 to a terminal on a CIA plane. This link has a range of 5,000 feet. Her earrings contain an audio and video link to the CIA.

I'm looking forward to "Phase Two".

  • The beginning of the end...

    "Perfect"
A very good episode. Fantastic, in fact, and very well-made. However, this was also the turning point in the series, where the original "double agent" idea was dropped since it was getting "too difficult" for new fans of the show to follow, and Sydney simply worked for just the CIA from then on. It set the ball rolling for the dumbed-down and predictable plot lines that follow in the rest of the series.

Bah-humbug.(Season one was superb for a reason--it was complex! Well, that UST between Vaughn and Sydney. It was never the same after this.) JJ and co--why did you sell out? You've kept us guessing with "Lost". Why couldn't you do the same here?

Without a doubt the best episode of the entire series and certainly worth all of the hype that is was given. I like how the beginning started - with the plane scene giving us something to think about for the enxt little while while the rest of the episode was going on. I like how they made this a one part episode - no need to ruin an episode by making it two parts and adding filler scenes into the mix. The fall of SD-6 was a very good twist for the show I think and I think that the show could go almost anywhere from here. I like how Sloane and Sark seem to be in this together, wanting the Alliance to fall apart. I thought the scene with Arvin at the beach by himself was also interesting - was his wife ever alive in the first place or was the cabin simply away from where he was at the time. Francie being "killed off" the show was the biggest shocking cliffhanger ending of the series. The best part about it is that it likely wont be revealed to Sydney and Will for a while. The interactions among the three should be very interesting now. The way JJ wrote that scene was amazing. Thinking first that Francie was the traitor and that she killed Will, to Francie being killed and having someone else be put in her place. This episode defines JJ Abrams at his finest, a complete series changing epsiode. Everything from here on out will go back to this episode - the episode where SD-6 and the Alliance falls.
  • Yeah! Super Bowl episode! Sydney kicks butt, parachutes out of a plane, takes down SD-6, kisses Vaughn and gets her roomate killed! all in one episode. amazing isn't it.

Super bowl episodes are always the best! The writers did a fantastic job with writing about the takedown of SD-6 and how she's no longer a double agent. I love the plot twist of Francie 2 being the other double. The writers out did themselves on this one. The acting was incredible too. I love Jenifer Garners scene of going "up the plane" so she doesn't get sucked out. They always out do themselves on the stunts. I'm amazed at how well this worked out. I also love the fact that the writers gave Syd a chance to get back at the shrimp man on the plane when she takes him down. That was funny. This was an amazing episode, I'd expect nothing more from a superbowl episodes. Amazing acting, writing, and plot twists. Loved it!
  • Best TV episode I've seen in my life.

Lost, 24, Heroes, Shield, House, whatever.... these shows have had great episodes. But none of them had ANYTHING like this.

The only thing you need to know about this episode is that they take down SD. Yes. The BIG moment, which I thought would be in the series finale. Well, no. It wasn't.

In-cre-di-ble. Suspense, drama, action. Not one moment where you would feel like 'Oh-kay, I wish i could fast forward'.

What's even better, is the fact the episode leaves us with 2 cliffhangers that made me chuckle, and made my heart stop for several minutes.

Francy is dead. Yes, but... not. WHAT? Sloane knew it all along? Sark too? EH? Okay, Sloane is a tricky one, it was revealed the last episode that he knew way more than we thought, but still. Amazing.

Amazing performances, once again, by everyone. Sydney is just so sexy. Even in black. If I had to put my finger on the BEST TV episode I've seen, this would be my choice. I've lost about 15 kg weight while watching.

    Thank you JJ!
  • Phase One is the supreme episode of the Alias because it is the defining moment in the series first two seasons. Phase One is only a reassuring episode of why it was so great. This episode is top of the line.

    10
    "Perfect"
Phase One begins with Jennifer Garner in only lingerie on two separate occasions, one being red and other being black. Then, she fights the guardian of the plane that holds all the information that she needs to know about her nemesis, SD-6 and the Alliance. She must get the information on the server number 47 because that is where all the information is stored on SD-6 because she got intelligence from an anonymous source, which later turns out to be her worst nemesis, her boss, Slogan. As always, in the process, she has to kick butt while at the time, escape from near death. She must avoid her new boss because he has become suspicious of her loyalty with SD-6. However, she must then save her father, Jack, from being tortured from the new director of SD-6 because of Slogan’s sudden disappearance and odd occurrences in the fake agency. Jack was suspected to be the double agent in SD-6 instead of Sydney. While he was being tortured, the CIA and FBI raid the complex of SD-6 by taking no prisoner except the willing to surrender, and Sydney saves her father from near death. Overall, it was the definitive episode of the series because Sydney destroyed SD-6 from the years of deceit.
  • Alias. Classic TV show. Now see the episode that sums up everything the show was! I MISS YOU FRANCIE!!

Alias is over now, but this episode is still THE best episode of all five seasons. I loved every episode of Alias but this one shall never be forgotten.

Phase One brought together everything Alias was - family drama, romance, action, shocking twists and surprises you just couldnt see coming.

i still believe that Francie's death was so wrong and so raw but it totally made the episode. From the plane going down to the CIA team busting into SD6 headquarters, Francie's death at the end was just a perfect yet shocking end to a an episode of a perfect and unpredictable show. I remember sitting there in shcok as poor Francie is shown up against the wall, shot by evil Alison. This episode showed audiences that you could have a good episode, full of action, without it being a season finale.

Alias may be over but the excitement of the episodes lives on. I miss the gang, and its fun to watch them in their glory days =]
  • The best

    10
    "Perfect"
Definative Alias episode. The end of SD-6. The beginning of an all new plot lines and characters. The true beginning of the Vaugh/Sydney love story. The clone storyline begins.

Sloane disappears as exactly the right time and no one thinks that it is suspicious though?

Evil Francie curse you for killing real Francie and stealing her life, but Francie was kinda boring anyway so oh well. Poor Will really doesn't have any idea at all. Seems like at every turn he keeps digging himself farther and farther into a hole. Dixon gets huffy when he finally learns the truth, but he does what is the right thing even though he is livid with Syd. The best episode of the series up to this point.
  • And finally Syd get's what she's wanted for a year and a half!

    10
    "Perfect"
This episode is beyond words! From the very beginning, to the shocking final thirty seconds this episode wrapped up so much and left so much to set up for the rest of the season.

The opening scene was one of the best I have seen in any TV show! Great snappy lines, Great stunts and action! The Whole scene that followed on from the first scene was spectacular with Syd's jump from the plane! It was so wll choregraphed and put together.

The huge raid was exactly what I wanted and more! Taking down SD-6 and finally getting Syd what she wanted, except for one thing...Arvin Sloane brought to justice.

And the final shocking scene, killing francie was a bold move, yet we still get Merrin, and it definatley worked as it gave u the huge fight scene from the telling.
  • First she starts out as an undercover hooker and acesses server 47 the secret Alliance server containing all the secrets of the Alliance and SD-1 through SD-12.

    10
    "Perfect"
Sydney is on a plane undercover as a hooker for a man who has access a mysterious server 47. On the plane her cover is blown and she is compromised. As you hear a shot being fired you see Sydney close her eyes and it goes back 72 hours earlier.

At the CIA (72 hours earlier) they lead up with their plans on getting on the plane and do de-breifing. It turns out that Sloane has been MIA for the past 5 days! The new leader, Gieger has suspicions about the Brisows, reading an e-mail written by Sloane before his disappearance. The email states Sydney and Jack Bristow are double agents.

While at SD-6 Sark lets it slip to Sydney that Gieger gained access to server 47. The CIA then develop a plan to acces server 47, which is held on a plane. Back on the plane Sydney uses her skills and wits to make it out alive as the plane crashes to a large ocean.

Once the CIA has the codes they need someone to make sure that they are correct before they make a plan of attack. Sydney received a phone call from her father. He uses a secret code to tell Sydney that he has been compromised by SD-6. While Jack is being interrogated/tortured, the CIA devises a plan to take down the Alliance. The plan is to send a team to every SD cell at once and do a final battle. Sydney meets with then only person who can help her from inside SD-6; Dixon. She reveals everything to him and he is astonished and doesn't believe her. Dixon returns to SD-6 and is curious about what Sydney said. He looks up the codes and sees they are match, by doing that he realizes Sydney was telling the truth. He informs the CIA and the attack is on.

The teams march into the SD cells and defeat the Alliance. At the end Vaughn and Sydney share a romantic kiss and express there feelings for each other...finally!
  • All I can say is WOW...

    10
    "Perfect"
What an episode! I think I'm still in shock.. It left me gasping and wide-eyed, much to the amusement of my fellow-watchers. J.J. Abrams gives us several plot twists that completely switch up the plot-line in the middle of the season.

Finally, the Alliance is destroyed and Sydney can be with Vaughn. Of course, when one problem is solved, another is introduced, and the new ones sure look promising. Who is this Francie look-alike who murdered Francie? Sloane is starting his own agency? Although it wasn't too hard to guess that Emily is alive, we also discover that Sloane knew Sydney and Jack were double-agents.

The best part is, this isn't even the season finale. I can't wait to see how this can be topped.

It has to be a re-run for this .
  • Bye bye SD-6

    "Perfect"
The best episode of Alias until now.

Say bye bye to SD-6 & the Alliance.

I knew it! Sloan & Sark have known all along that Sydney & Jack are double agents & Sloan was using them to get rid of the Alliance, but what is his plan now. I have a feeling that Irena (even though she didn't show up today) is behind all this.

Will & Francie share a few kisses, but I was so sad to see Francie dead at the end of the episode.

Finally Syd & Vaughn can be together. They finally shared their first kiss.

This episode is not to be missed.

This was one of the best episodes of Alias. Finally after year and a half of build up SD-6 is gone. It was amazing, and not only was SD-6 gone but FINALLY Syd and Vaughn are together like they should be. It was fantastic. Although most of the episode was happy, I was extremely upset that Francie was killed and had a doulbe replace her. But all in all this epiose was faboulous

I just saw this episode for the first time on TNT. It was absolutely the most amazing hour of TV that I have ever seen. I still can't believe it. This series is (was?) AMAZING! I don't know why more people, especially me, didn't watch it. If you haven't seen any episodes from this series, I recommend that you buy the DVD's, quickly, and watch them.
  • Best episode of the series!

In a daring move, the writers took a plot that we all thought would be for the series finale and delivered in in this 2nd year, midseason episode.

In a nutshell, their risk paid off. This episode contains all the moments you were waiting to see since the start of the show! 35 weeks of sexual tension finally explodes, huge lies are exposed and the biggest enemy of all is taken head-on!

This is not to be missed, everything you love about ALIAS cumulates in this episode. With chilling dialogue, dazzling action and a nail biting plot, you will be blown away. And just when you're reduced to a crying/screaming/cheering heap at the edge of your couch, the final few seconds before the credits roll with knock you out with the biggest shock of all!

  • I just wanted to let you know that phase one is complete.

    9.0
    "Superb"
And this was just brilliant. In 45 minutes absolutely EVERYTHING in this show has changed! I've never seen it before, and it's not even the season finale or whatever. It's in the middle of the season and then they pull this. Those writers really are great!

SD-6 is finished. And Sloane has planned it. That certainly is a twist. I seems that he knew all along about Sydney and Jack, wich would be logical, 'cause it kinda really showed. Just like Geiger said: "Both your files... there were so many red flags, I thought I was in a Russian airport." Sloane is really something.

Jack and Sydney are just....(it's hard to explain)....the're family I guess. She was so freaked about him! Certainly a lot has changed in 1,5 years. Too bad Irina wasn't in this one, I suppose we will see her in the next episode though.

The fighting scenes were all just awesome this time. I love the forward look at the beginning of the epi in the airplane. And I also loved how Sydney eventually escaped from that airplane. The attack at SD-6 was all in all maybe a little too short, but it certainly was to see that it was a big fight.

And then Sydney & Vaughn. Finally!!! What a tension was there between them. The way he told her he loved her: That he can't sleep, and that he can't focus ( in the meeting after that you saw them looking at each other :P ). It was also great how jealous he was of that guy who was keeping the code. "I'm gonna kill that guy". And that kiss, was THE moment I've been looking forward to! Wow! And how typical to do it right after SD-6 was finished. They waited untill the exact right moment.

So Francie is dead? I'm not really sure if I like that, with the double and all. It seems like that's kinda a weird storyline. I also wonder why Sloane wants someone near Sydney. He defenitly has planes for her.

Dixon now knows, and he's seriously pissed. I understand that, although Sydney did it all for the sake of good, she still betrayed him. I love him for the doing the right thing though, and the fact he called his wife (L)

    Sidenotes:

    - I adored Weiss. He's just so funny, and he's kinda a little responsible for bringing my fav. couple together. ( "No man naturally smells as good as you do righ now" )

    - Small part, but oh so cute once again: Marshall!

    - I respect Kendall. He started off as someone to dislike but he has grown.

    - Sark's really working with Sloane. Why is Sloane trusting him? What does he have to offer?

This was just a series classic! I can't wait to see what happens next!
  • This Alias' episode is basically why I watch it, and moreover, this is what I waited for ever since the first episode.

    10
    "Perfect"
Ever since the first episode, where Sydney learned that truth from her father, and joined the CIA in order to be a double agent, all I wanted to can be summed into two:

    1. SD6's fall

    2. Sydney and Vaughn together.

Well, what can be better than one episode, in which, these two things happen? This is a fine example for an incredible series, on how to make an excellent TV. Rule number one: Make an episode like this - Satisfy your viewers.

Jack is now at the hands of SD6. When Sloane left, he found out that Jack and Sydney are doubles. The new head, Geiger, is decisive to get rid of them both. He managed to catch Jack, and he will torture him until he reveals where Sydney is, and who are they working for.

Moreover, Sark, as part of the plan with Sloane, revealed to Sydney that there's a server, Server 47, where the Alliance keeps all the data. Sydney managed to get this valuable data, and by that, to bring the fall of SD6 and the whole Alliance. The CIA raided all Alliance facilities. Jack was saved, he and Sydney are free. Finally.

Meanwhile, it is discovered that Vaughn broke with Alice, his girl. Throughout the whole episode, the tension between Sydney and Vaughn was clearer than the sun. In the end, in the middle of the destroyed SD6 facility, they are finally together.

A great end for a story is just the beginning. Sloane did it all on purpose, and there's another surprise for Sydney, right inside her own home. She might want to hand her resignation, but the way is yet too long for that.

This is the episode where I can say safely, I love to watch Alias.
  • Could an episode be done any better? I doubt it - this is really great stuff!

    9.8
    "Superb"
This episode is just about the best of any 'Alias'-episodes I have watched so far. It's exciting, revealing and there are (finally) no flaws or weak points, that I resent so much in any movie/TV-series. It's just a perfect example of what TV can bring about in enterainment and is close to the quality of high-class Movies.

I can't stress how much I loved this episode. The characters are believable, the plot is cleverly written and the suspense is nerve-cracking. Plus, even with the (seemingly - who knows whats waiting to come in the following episodes concerning The Alliance) destruction of the alliance there are so many newly opened secrets and mysteries, that wait to be revealed, there seems no end near.

What more can I say to justify this episode: watch it and be impressed. It's perfect!

I saw this episode last night on DVD and I was amazed. It was one of the best episode of ALIAS I've ever seen. I loved many of the scenes, actually this one with Sidney with underwear when asked the fat guy "What's wrong with black !?" was very funny. Now I am at 2x15 and I can't wait to see the next episode. The sad part is that I live in Greece and I have to see it only on DVD (with no greek subtitles, only english). The good part is that I can speak and understand the english language

'Phase One' is no doubt one of the best episodes of Alias of all time. This is definately the episode that you would show a friend if you wanted to get them absouloutly hooked on the series. with a 'seventy-two hours later' type format, Phase one covers some of the most pivitol events in the entire series,(SPOILER) the fall of all the SD cells and a twist at the end so shocking, you'll think of nothing else for the rest of the day. On top of all that, this episode features the lovely Jennifer Garner in two changes of lingerie! All in all, this episode is one to remember, and changes the face of Alias forever. Watch and Enjoy!!!!
  • Incredible.

The episode opens right up with Jennifer Garner strutting around in slow motion in lingerie. Need I say more? Theres not much that gets better than that.

However, this episode truely is incredible. Action wise the take down of SD-6 is pretty captivating and makes the viewer extremely happy. Emotionally it is good to see Vaughn and Syd finally get to show each other how they feel.

And you can't ask for a much better cliffhanger than this one (unless you ask for the cliffhanger to season 2's finale "the telling").
