  • high suspense but a little illogical

    I just watched The Box (1) and (2) and while this was very high suspense and I still give it a high rating for a TV series (note that I rate on an absolute scale, only the best thing I ever saw in the genre of movie/TV show will receive a rating of 10, so 8 is still very good), I generally have to say that sometimes I miss a little touch of reality and logic in this show. Here is the thing that I am still wondering about: If this fail-safe thing was on and it would kill anyone in the building (and probably destroy all Rambaldi artifacts), why was Sloane hiding this fact from Cole? Why in the world? Sure, it makes sense that he doesn't tell him in the beginning, because then Cole would torture him to tell him how to deactivate it and then cut off his finger. But close to the end, when Sloane knows that the code of the vault is about to be broken and Cole *will* go there and try to open it, why not tell him that this will simply kill everyone in the building, including himself?

    I don't want to ruin the fun of suspense and all that, but isn't the use of logic and communication strategy a major reason to watch spy-shows?moreless

  • What's in Box?!

    The pacier of the two-parts, The Box has a lot more fun with the infiltration of SD-6, and we finally get to see Vaughn take some initiative. While always a good character, it's not until season four do I find him a compelling lead character. Meanwhile, the action bumps up several notches, with some expertly crafted fight scenes, which aren't as elaborate as Alias' typical hand-to-hand combat, but there's a lot on offer: from the gruesome discovery of the agent in the closet to the playful fight between Syd and Cole (where Quinton gets to have oodles of fun), there's a lot to enjoy action-wise. There's some great character bits, as usual, with McKenas having a chat with Syd, mockingly calling her Pigtails; this lightweight convo suddenly takes a dark and bittersweet turn as he boasts about wanting to be there when Sloane lets her down, when we already know he's done much more than that. Powerful stuff, laudably acted by Tarantino and Garner.moreless

    Last episode ended really excitingly and this one continues even more fast - Sydney's father lets himself to be caught instead Sydney and she has to deactivate failsafe in order not get blow up when the hatch door is opened.. And then Dixon manages to send message to CIA.. and Vaughn gets involved and oh.. those two working together on those bombs - that was almost as good as Sydney and her father teaming up..

    Anyway, really exciting episode from the start to the end, no slow moments what i totally loved, really fast and little plot turns.. What else do you want?moreless

    Antes de entrar derecho en Sidney salvando a Sloane: estaba empezando a sospechar que se haban olvidado de Rambaldi, pero no se salvaron justito de mi empezar a desconfiar del buen dormir de J.J. y sus amigotes.
    Ahora s: Sidney y su destino. Pobrecita salvando al malo malito malsimo de su jefe que entre otras barbaridades mand a matar a su amado pero bueno al final no estuvo tan mal porque gracias a eso conoci al lindo de Vaughn y se enamor y seguramente se casarn y tendrn lindos hijitos que salvarn al mundo de los malos malitos malsimos como Sloane a quien Sidney salv de los malos malitos malsimos.moreless

    Jack takes the fall for Sydney and he is captured. Dixon makes a distress message to the CIA. Vaughn gets it and wants to go over there, against CIA orders. Cole continues to torture Sloane. Jack has provided a map for Sydney to deactivate the C4. She and Vaughn disarm Cole's men/woman. They deactivate two of three C4 things. When Cole threatens to kill all of the SD-6 agents, Sydney surrenders to him while Sloane calls Weiss. CIA back up is on its way. Sydney, Jack, Dixon and Marshall manage to stop the two guards and Jack gets to Sloane. Cole is about to open the vault, so Sloane tells Jack to cut his right index finger off in order to stop the C4. Jack does it just in time, but Cole gets what he wants. CIA arrives and with Sydney's help, they stop him. Will takes the key to the pier and finds a copy of an autopsy done to the girl's mother. She runs away hoping that Will will do what he promised.

    This episode was great! All the action and suspense was great! Some things are really hard to understand though. This episode gets a 10 out of 10!moreless

    • GOOF: While interrogating Sloane, McKenas puts a Fire Needle into his neck. When he shoots Toni, the needle is still there, after he checks Toni's vital's the needle's gone. Then when Jack gets Sloane out of the chair, the needle is back in his neck.

    • GOOF: While Vaughn is removing the bolts with the fire extinguisher, the top left bolt is gone, but in the next cut, it's back there again.

    • Cole tortures Sloane by injecting a super-concentrated derivative of hot sauce.     • Sydney takes out one of the terrorists, and Cole can hear him getting beat-up over the walkie-talkie. If the terrorist is getting beat up, who is holding down the button to transmit?

    • Dixon manages to enter a perfectly spelled and punctuated message in his PDA, with his hands tied and using the end of a plastic handcuff, while being watched by armed terrorists.
