  • high suspense but a little illogical

I just watched The Box (1) and (2) and while this was very high suspense and I still give it a high rating for a TV series (note that I rate on an absolute scale, only the best thing I ever saw in the genre of movie/TV show will receive a rating of 10, so 8 is still very good), I generally have to say that sometimes I miss a little touch of reality and logic in this show. Here is the thing that I am still wondering about: If this fail-safe thing was on and it would kill anyone in the building (and probably destroy all Rambaldi artifacts), why was Sloane hiding this fact from Cole? Why in the world? Sure, it makes sense that he doesn't tell him in the beginning, because then Cole would torture him to tell him how to deactivate it and then cut off his finger. But close to the end, when Sloane knows that the code of the vault is about to be broken and Cole *will* go there and try to open it, why not tell him that this will simply kill everyone in the building, including himself?

I don't want to ruin the fun of suspense and all that, but isn't the use of logic and communication strategy a major reason to watch spy-shows?
  • What's in Box?!

The pacier of the two-parts, The Box has a lot more fun with the infiltration of SD-6, and we finally get to see Vaughn take some initiative. While always a good character, it's not until season four do I find him a compelling lead character. Meanwhile, the action bumps up several notches, with some expertly crafted fight scenes, which aren't as elaborate as Alias' typical hand-to-hand combat, but there's a lot on offer: from the gruesome discovery of the agent in the closet to the playful fight between Syd and Cole (where Quinton gets to have oodles of fun), there's a lot to enjoy action-wise. There's some great character bits, as usual, with McKenas having a chat with Syd, mockingly calling her Pigtails; this lightweight convo suddenly takes a dark and bittersweet turn as he boasts about wanting to be there when Sloane lets her down, when we already know he's done much more than that. Powerful stuff, laudably acted by Tarantino and Garner.

Last episode ended really excitingly and this one continues even more fast - Sydney's father lets himself to be caught instead Sydney and she has to deactivate failsafe in order not get blow up when the hatch door is opened.. And then Dixon manages to send message to CIA.. and Vaughn gets involved and oh.. those two working together on those bombs - that was almost as good as Sydney and her father teaming up..

Anyway, really exciting episode from the start to the end, no slow moments what i totally loved, really fast and little plot turns.. What else do you want?

Jack takes the fall for Sydney and he is captured. Dixon makes a distress message to the CIA. Vaughn gets it and wants to go over there, against CIA orders. Cole continues to torture Sloane. Jack has provided a map for Sydney to deactivate the C4. She and Vaughn disarm Cole's men/woman. They deactivate two of three C4 things. When Cole threatens to kill all of the SD-6 agents, Sydney surrenders to him while Sloane calls Weiss. CIA back up is on its way. Sydney, Jack, Dixon and Marshall manage to stop the two guards and Jack gets to Sloane. Cole is about to open the vault, so Sloane tells Jack to cut his right index finger off in order to stop the C4. Jack does it just in time, but Cole gets what he wants. CIA arrives and with Sydney's help, they stop him. Will takes the key to the pier and finds a copy of an autopsy done to the girl's mother. She runs away hoping that Will will do what he promised.

This episode was great! All the action and suspense was great! Some things are really hard to understand though. This episode gets a 10 out of 10!

This is great 2nd episode out of this two part episode CIA agent Vaughan comes to the aid of Jack And Sydney to help basically help save SD-6 also the leader of the group still seeks revenge on Sloane and still wants into the SD-6 Vault to get something out of it over all a great episode that I think is stronger then the first one out of this two part episode this is a great one nothing boring every thing is just right about this episode from how it is written to everything else had me on the edge of my seat and it also finished strong the end
  • Amazing and full of action - it even managed to be funny, in the form of - you guessed it - Marshall.

An exciting round up to The Box. I found the plot line for this episode even more exciting then that for the previous episodes. There were many twists and turns that kept me waiting on my feet - the story is never boring. Explosives, hostages, a ticking clock... The episode is also where one starts to really feel hate for Haladki. His behaviour is - just - atrocious. I enjoyed the scenes with Sydney and Vaughn very much as well. The development in Will's reluctant investigation was as per usual I felt, but it will be interesting nevertheless to see how it turns out. The episode amazed me in the form of the many exciting twists and action, definitely - And not forgetting Sloane's bravery, which led me just short of admiring him. Overall this is an episode well worth watching, and an awesome conclusion.

I thought the second half of the storyline was much more interesting then the first half. Most of the storyline stayed with the intrusion on SD 6, which I thought was the correct path to take for the episode given how much hype that this episode had been given before it even hit the air. I thought the ending was the only not so good part, not giving us anything to really look forward to in the next week. Next week could be just about anything in regards to the plotline and I hate not having that feeling of not knowing whats going to happen to Sydney in the next episode of the series. Other then that though – the scenes with Sydney and Vaughn were good. I would have liked to see that other Double Agent live through the experience, but it appears that will not be a storyline we get to follow. One of the best episodes of the entire series though, other then the ending.
  • Quentin Tarantino makes Alias very comedic... in a way it probably shouldn't be but ends up being.

This is also a review for The Box #1

Now I'll admit, just hearing the name Quentin Tarantino causes me to stifle a few giggles (in good humor of course), but when i found out that Quentin Tarantino was on a few episodes of Alias, I was just waiting for it. Waiting for what you ask? Quentin Tarantino being Quentin Tarantino. You know what i'm talking about. He tries to be all cool and slick but just makes you want to laugh hysterically. Thats exactly what he did here. And i'll admit it, i love this episode BECAUSE of it's silliness. i mean, where would this episode have been without Quentin saying "now, i know im not the smoothest guy when it comes to the ladies, so i must've said something totally inappropriate because you said if i ever talked to you again, you'd break my kneecaps. which made me just LOVE you!" or... or... how he makes "you dont want me to open the box" all threatening when it just sounds so funny. i dont know. maybe it's just me. But i'll tell you something, Quentin Tarantino is pretty funny, and he makes a hell of a bad guy... hilarious or no. When thinking about those Alias episodes that made an impact with me... The Box 1 and The Box 2 are right up there. it also doesn't hurt to hear Vaughn say "This is a charge of C4. I can tell because it has "C4" written all over it." hee hee. Good Work JJ... and everyone else.

  • Amazing! I love Quentin Tarantino

It figures, how can such an amazing episode have only 1 part?

Sydney is still trying to save SD 6 & all he co-workers from being blown to pieces by deactivating the C4. Vaughn comes to help Jack & Sydney but unfortunately Jack has given himself up & it's up to Syd & Vaughn to deactivate the C4, they've already deactivated 1 & have 2 to go so they split up, Vaughn succeeds, but Syd gives herself up to save her father.

Jack has to cut Sloans finger off so he can stop the failsafe from blowing SD 6 up, and he stops it just in time.

Cole gets away with the contents of the vault and ens up fighting with Syd in the garage, the CIA come in time to arrest Cole & take the small bottle of liquid from him.
