I think the most shocking this in this episode was the whole Sydney's mother thing. The way she marches in and shoots her in the start and then in the end, saves her and gives herself in.

Anyway, most of the episode the timelines jump back and forward as Sydney is talking her story.. then something is happening.. a little confusing but has a great motion.

And they solved Will's problem too.. so.. but I do not like the way they did it - considering the mess they get themselves in the end of last season, it was just too easy - talk trough and it is done. I thought they will struggle a more..moreless

Blockbuster way to start off the second season I think. This episode had a lot of answers and a lot of very well fimled JJ Abrams scenes mixed into the bunch. I like the explaination of Vaughns break out. Rather then just having him be alive, we get to see a realistic way that he could have escaped the drama that we were left with last season. I thought the decision to kill of Sloanes wife was really good. I think it further depends the hatred that we all share for Arvin. He became sort of a popular figure last year when he stuck by his wifes side, which is why killing her off via Arvin killing her was such a great twist in the writing. It just shows how deep his character really is, doing anything to make sure that SD-6 is not uncovered. Will not being a reporter anymore should be interesting for the storyline of himself. He knows about Sydney now, maybe something between him and Vaughn will come up. Sydneys mom and Khasinaus storyline was also very well done. I liked the end of the episode and think the next couple of episodes trying to put reason behind Sydneys mothers decision should be interesting. Fantastic come back for the second season.moreless

  • Once Again Alias delivers another great episode bringing in an amazing new cast member which will be at the center of things to come.

    "Great"
Season 2 begins with the introduction of Lena Olin or Irina Derevko Sydney's mother. The episode also has a kind of flashback approach that is retold while Sydney is with a psychologist. This is of course done for the benefit of anyone who may be new to the show quickly explaining the basics of the show, however the approach used keeps it from becoming boring for the returning viewers.

Right from the beginning we get what is the best fight scene in the episode with Sydney trying to escape, while having a bullet in her shoulder. I like how the psychologist doesn't quite believe it fully and Sydney explains that there is no drug like adrenaline. There are two small fight scenes that Sydney has later on both are really just their for conflict sake not to be nice and flashy like the first one. There is also a short scene where you see the destroyed building from the season finale and the graphics are well done.

Everyone who was worried that Vaughn would not survive is given something to worry about at the begging but is of course rescued by Sydney later on. Each actor did a great job as usual, however Jennifer was on top of her game in all her scenes with her mother. Especially at the end during Emily's funeral which is followed by the fact that her mother has turned herself in. She really plays out the fact that she had a mother figure who was amazing and the reality that her real mother shot her in the shoulder. Which brings me to her mother, Lena Olin is amazing in every scene even tough she isn't in the episode for very long.

The premiere set out to of course answer all the cliffhangers of the first season finale. Dixon does tell on Sydney, which Jack fixes by basically taking the blame, simple and a bit to easy but it worked. As said before Vaughn is brought back safely and Sydney meets her mother and then escapes. The most interesting approach to a cliffhanger I think was what happened to Will. He had disappeared and as a result an article about SD-6 was put out into the public. So to keep Will safe Jack injects him with Heroine. His entire career is ruined and he is no longer a credible reporter. Irina turning herself in at the very end of the episode is obviously the beginning of a secret agenda that I'm sure will resurface by the end of the season. He writing as usual was great with great banter and of course a hilarious scene with Marshall and one of his new gadgets. However the scene at the end deserves special notice with the comparisons between Emily and Irina the two influential women in Sydney's life and how different they are. Overall the episode was another great addition and a good series premiere to start off the season. All the answers provide are satisfying and the questions you are left with leave you only wanting to know more. Again Irina is a great addition to the cast and I cant wait to see more of her. Finally Weiss seemed to have a nasty wound on his neck but something tells me he isn't gone for good.

Will:"Um,excuse me,did you say you were shoy by your mother?"

That was an excellent season opener.A lot of things happened. The writers gave us answers to almost all of last season's cliffhangers and they introduced an interesting storyline for this season.Irina Derevko alias Laura Bristow.

Irina is evil and definitely mysterious and unpredictable.I mean,in the first scene she shoots her own daughter saying that she should have killed her when she was a baby. Then,in the port, instead of killing Syd she kills Khasinau and finally she turns her self into the CIA.Why?What is she up to?I like her.

Fortunately,Vaughn is alive!Well,we all knew that he would be.He manages to get his self out of danger with a screwdriver. The scene where he thanks Syd for saving his life is very romantic. They're definitely in love with each other.

That was the main theme of this episode.Of course, some other things happen, too.Dixon reports Syd to Sloane believing her to be a double agent, but Jack's ingenious mind fabricates a believable story and Syd is saved.

Will's life changes forever.I took pity on him.He was obliged to say that he was a heroin addict. Now,he doesn't have a job,his friends from the office won't want to see him again. He has oly Francie and Syd.

A very mysterious and intriguing subplot in this episode is what happened to Vaughn? He said that he escaped and while he was on his way to the exit,he was caught up.The only thing that he remembers is waking up in France. Why they were severing all those people?

    Comments

--I have the impression that Alias has changed a little bit.{I don't speak only for the introduction)

--What happened to Weiss?I'm sure he won't die.

--So,Sloane did kill Emilly. The ironic thing is that i was starting to like him.

--Irina is very beautyfull and she seems very young. When did she gave birth to Syd?

--Syd's hair has been lightened a little bit and looks longer.

--This episode's scenery:Taipei,Cap Ferrat-France,in order to plant a bug in Jean-Marc Ravais'office, and the Port of Barcelona.

--This episode's gadget:Marshall's bug which was actually in the line.

--This episode's aliases:The girl with the blue wig in Taipei and the girl with the blonde wig in Cap ferrat(Syd)

--This episode's hot look:blue wig from the last season's ender and the blonde wig with that fantastic dress.

--Syd proved for one more time how clever she is.How did she escape from there?

--This episode's cliffhanger:Irina turning herself into the CIA...

    Excellent!!!

Unless it magically got wiped off completely in the space of about two seconds, there's some serious continuity going on. Edit

Sydney: When you found out about me, I was just terrified because I saw what happened when Danny learned the truth. But I was also selfishly so relieved because it meant that you knew, and I didn't have to think every time we spoke. I could just be me. Edit
    • Will: (making a statement to the press for SD-6 to hear) My problem with heroin goes back three years. I'm embarrassed for myself and for my family when I tell you that most of what I've written in that time has been complete fiction including my most recent report about an organization that I called SD-6. These were desperate attempts... Edit
    • Sydney: (on the phone with Francie) Have I heard from Will? No. Francie: Well, me neither and there's this story on the news right now. Will wrote a story in today's paper that wasn't supposed to get printed unless he went missing. Sydney: What was Will's story about? Francie: It's about the murder of your fiance, and some conspiracy, and some group called SD-6. Edit
