With Belle out of town, Alice and Vera pick up the slack at the diner. Meanwhile, a male trucker, Burt and his female partner, Jolene stop by Mel's Diner and it is there where Jolene decides to take a stand when she gets fed up with Burt constantly making passes at her which ultimately leads to the entire Mel's Diner staff getting locked in the women's bathroom.moreless
  • In this episode, Celia Weston (Jolene) replaced Diane Ladd (Belle) as the new waitress at Mel's Diner. The episode rather unexpectedly wrote Diane off, possibly due to contract dispute or expiration.moreless

Jolene drove a semi-truck cross-country with her male partner (Bert). Jolene and Bert pulled into Mel's Diner, where she told Bert that she refused to drive with him any further because of his unprofessional actions.

One of the funniest scenes of the episode was when regular customer Henry was sitting at the diner counter eating jello between Jolene and Bert. As Jolene and Bert were arguing with each other, Henry was caught in the middle, and he dropped some jello on the counter. As he was struggling to pick up the jello with his spoon, Bert picked up the jello with his hand and put it in Henry's mouth. After that, Henry became terrified of Bert.

Bert was insisting that Jolene continue to drive with him; but Jolene had enough of Bert, and she yelled at him to get out of her life. She ran into the ladies' room to get away from him. Alice went into the restroom to try to talk with her. Alice learned that Jolene was being sexually harassed by Bert, and Alice became very sympathetic toward Jolene.

Soon, Vera came into the restroom, after Mel ordered her to go in & get Jolene out. When the waitresses stayed in the restroom, Mel came in, followed by Henry. Henry walked in with his eyes covered because he was "in the ladies' room". He also said he didn't want to be left alone in the diner with Bert. At this time, Bert was the only one left in the diner, and everyone else was in the restroom. Bert put some furniture and a jukebox up against the restroom door, and said to everybody, "if you want to stay in there, you just stay in there!". Then he left the diner with all the others blocked inside the bathroom.

After Bert drove off, Alice decided to go out through the small restroom window. She came back around into the diner, and found another customer who was unaware that everyone had been locked in the ladies' room. Alice and the customer moved all the furniture away from the door and let everybody out.

At this time, Jolene revealed that she was broke and she needed money to get back to South Carolina. Belle called from Nashille, and said that she was quitting her job at Mel's to be a singer. When it was suggested that Jolene be the new replacement waitress, Mel refused to hire her because of the trouble she caused.

Bert came back to the diner and said to Jolene that he wanted to give her one more chance. Jolene was so furious at Bert that she threw a stack of Mel's plates at him. Bert ran out of the diner and drove off again. Mel came out and was angry at Jolene for breaking his plates. He finally agreed to hire Jolene only as a temporary waitress to pay for the damage. However, Jolene's "temporary waitress position" at Mel's lasted another 4 years until the show's finale.moreless
