Justin explains the horrible winters they have. Raja does a chore, which makes Justin have to do things around the house. Franny wants to drop Raja off to meet Ahmad, Raja's Muslim friend, at a different time. The only thing keeping them together is looking forward to their trip to Vancouver, Canada. Justin is in choir and he is the star. Justin has a solo everytime. At the airport, there are many people around. Raja is preparing to pray at the airport. People look at him weirdly. Airport security wants to talk to Raja, but when he doesn't respond because of his prayer, they call back-up.
Because of Raja, the Tolchucks must return home. Raja feels bad. Gary tries to teach Justin to drive. Everytime Gary tries to teach Justin something, it goes wrong. Claire complains about Raja. Franny tries to tell her to calm down, but offends Raja as well. Raja tries to explain that it's his religion. The family tells him to try and tone it down. Raja is really hurt. The next morning, their anger at Raja was gone, but unfortunately, Raja has disappeared too.
Justin is sad that Raja is gone. Raja left a note. He tells them to go to Canada and that he is with people like him. Claire is all ready to go. Justin tells them that they can't leave without Raja. The family starts to argue about it. They try to find him at the Muslim mosque. They try to look for Raja. Gary and Justin look for him, while Claire and Franny put on a more Muslim attire. Franny and Claire meet a mother and daughter looking for their foreign exchange student from Germany. There is another mosque that Raja might be at. Gary and Justin go to look for him, so Franny and Claire must stay with the other family. Raja is actually at school. Raja wants to talk to Mr. Matthews about being sent to a new family. Gary tries to teach Justin to drive. Justin crashes into the snow.
Claire is intrigued by the German foreign exchange student. Franny talks to the mother and they both seemed interested in the other exchange student. Justin accidentally hit a tree. Gary is disappointed in Justin. They have an argument. Raja talks to Mr. Matthews. Mr. Matthews explains that he was the only African-American on the school staff when he first joined. He inspires Raja with that story, even though it's not true. Mr. Matthews explains that Franny and Gary have punished Justin and Claire, so now that they're mean to him, he realizes that they're family. Franny asks the other mother for a favor. Gary asks about Justin's choir. He tells them they sang a Beatles medley and that he had a solo. They start bonding over David Bowie. Gary talks about his father and how he tried to make him a man. Gary asks Justin to sing for him. Justin starts singing. Gary joins him. They were actually near a mosque and Ahmad takes them home. Franny surprises Raja with a Pakistan feast and invites Muslim people over. Raja is grateful. The family and guests have a great time together.
