  • Margaret agrees to date a Korean boy, but is unwilling and unable to keep up a sumbissive personality to keep him happy.

This episode had a lot of different values. It made clear to me a series of behaviors I did not know existed. In Korean culture (at least, according to the show) a Korean woman is supposed to be sumbissive and just go along with whatever the man wants. Margaret does this at first, but is only able to keep up the act so long.

While this deals with a specific culture, it is reflective of something very real in dating- not being yourself in order to attract or make someone else happy. It is an interesting subject to me. I was glad that Margaret does not keep up the artificiality.moreless

As Margaret is getting dumped by her boyfriend Dakota, he points to his heart and says "You'll always be in here." To which Margaret replies "You'll always be in here. That was lame when E.T. said it. This is a reference to the ending of Steven Spielberg's E.T.: The Extraterrestrial.
